How do you get rid of dust mites in a pillow?

Lately, I've noticed that my dust allergies have been acting up more whenever I go to bed. So, I'm considering the idea that perhaps my pillows may have dust mites. It's possible, I suppose. They are everywhere, after all. So, now I am wondering what I can do to get rid of the dust mites. Simply using a pillow case over top of the pillow is not protecting me from the dust mites. So, either I could get brand new pillows or maybe use a product on the pillow to get rid of the dust mites. Trouble is, I don't know what type of product could kill dust mites. Are there any products available that kill dust mites? Can you vacuum a pillow? What do you think? What would you do?

Besides vaccuming the pillows, and throwing them in the dryer, I also keep two pillowcases on each pillow. Put the first one on, then when you put the second one on turn it so that the opening is on the opposite end from the first one. This works well as it gives a double pillowcasing to lesson the chance of skin cells getting deep into the pillow (and skin cells is what the mites eat.) When I change the sheets, etc, I remove both pillowcases and wash them. I have a lot of allergies too and this seems to help a lot.

OK, now that's just brilliant! I will do that as well. You're right, they feed on skin cells, so the less cells available, the less chance they will have to feed. Perhaps I will start changing the pillow cases daily.

Oh you should have watched Oprah the other day. It was great they told us to get new pillows every couple of monthes. And that reminds me Im getting a new one this weekend. I think thats the only way to go. I mean I suppose you try washing it in real hot water but no guarantees it come out in one piece.
