The world always suffers when it's top musicians die. I remember very clearly that it was a cold snowy night in the northeast US when John Lennon was murdered. My heart broke then.
Today, Luciano Pavarotti died early in the morning in his home in Italy. I know opera probably doesn't have a lot of fans on myLot, but for myself, this is a loss. My father taught me to appreciate everything from rock to opera. In a concert with a community choir he sang next to Beverly Sills who was the guest of honor for that performance.
With Pavarotti's death, the world has lost a velvet tenor voice that touched not only opera lovers, but blended with singers from other genres as well. I just heard in one newscast that of course he was criticized for that but he never let it change his attitude. I love the recording he made with Celine Dion.

I'm not a huge opera fan but I absolutely love his voice. I'll never forget when he sang Nessun Dorma from Act 3 of Turandot at the Olympics in Italy a few years ago. It gave me chills and it still does as I'm listening to it right now. Such a voice and no other like it. RIP Luciano.
