Is this enough to finally get the ball rolling and address the problem? What do you think? Burden of illegals outlined in letter Virginia's attorney general yesterday sent a letter to President Bush and Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill demanding they "take immediate action to address the issue of illegal immigration" to ease the financial and public safety burdens being shouldered by states. "The borders are not yet secure, the administration and enforcement of the immigration system is cumbersome and ineffective, and the public safety problems caused by criminal aliens are growing," Robert F. McDonnell wrote in a five-page letter to the president, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. "This is unacceptable." Mr. McDonnell, a Republican, urged the president to call a special session of Congress if they cannot resolve the issue during the regular session. He said a lack of money and manpower has led to federal immigration laws not being enforced. He also said some states have been handcuffed by federal laws, including a policy that bars state or local laws that would provide criminal or civil penalties for employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens. That is good that they are noticing the problem, hopefully the federal government will begin to do something about it now. There are a lot of ways that illegals take money out of our economy and it would be worth it to increase federal spending to better protect the border and to remove illegals who are already in the country. I also agree that there should be punishments for employers who can be proved had knowledge that they were employing illegals because it is just like harboring a criminal.

About darn time and I have a feeling Virginia will not be the only one. Hopefully other states will follow suit in demanding the Federal Government to stop playing around with this issue and do something, beside trying to figure out how to use these criminals to our advantage. Just pick them up and ship them out.

I sure hope this wakes them up! It is getting awful and I know they are grabbing jobs that legal people should have. and ones that speak English too. I get so tired of repeating myself at a drivein window for they dont understand my southern accent and I sure dont understand their lingo.

I think it's going to take all of us legal citizens to bombard the white house and congress with letters for any action to take place. We (legal citizens) need to work together on this issue.
