Being behind the desk and almost never going around, or doing any sports - I feel more of a coach potato. I am having problems with my bones breaking easily, and problems with my knees, so, I cannot do many of the sports. It gets me very tired to walk much too, but I do it at least once a week for about 2 hours. I was wondering how many of the MyLotters are coach potatos like myself, and wouldn't you want to be more active?

Well I certainly don't do sports at all, because I hate them! I was the girl at school always inventing excuses to get out of sports lessons because I hated them so much!! However I wouldn't call myself a couch potato either! I walk a lot every day (more out of necessity than anything else because of where my office is in relation to the Tube stop!), and I also love gardening, and going out and about, I would go crazy if I was shut in the same house all day - so I love to go out - just don't make me do sports when I go!

Yes, yoga is a great way to keep the body fit and supple, and also to relax and de-stress the mind. I wish you luck with it. Swimming is also good exercise for those with any health problems, as the weater is buoyant, and you do not need so much physical strength to feel the benefits.

Hi Rosie, and thank you for contributing as always :)
I was very much involved with atlethics while I was younger, and until my 20th BD, when my bones started to break too often, and than the knees started to hurt.
And I wish I was walking daily and enjoying my garden too. But have promised myself to start doing just that, and starting next week wednesday I'll start with yoga, and a daily walk of 15 minutes at least, and from there we will just wait and see :)

I'm kina of half and half.I do excercise but I can be extremely lazy at times.I guess that makes me a half of a couch potato.

I'm pretty much a couch potato but not by choice. I have Fibromyalgia and arthritis in my hips so I can't be on my feet for very long before it gets really painful. About 20-30 minutes and I have sit down. If I go to the grocery store I always have to have a cart to lean on even if I'm only picking up a couple of items.
I was always an active and athletic person before this all kicked me in the behind so I've had to change a lot of things in my life. I still try to do as much as I can. I sing with my band a couple times a month and we go out to watch other bands too. But during the week I'm pretty much parked in front of my computer all day.

Hi Craftcatcher and thank you for jumping in this discussion :) And I am sorry to hear that you are with the health problems you have, as it could be very debilitating, especially when you have been an active person before.
I am in the sdame position and hate it very much. However we should play with the hands we were dealth with, and tha's that :) I keep telling myself that the bad things are there for some good cause.. even if we can't see it right away, but if so - only time will tell :)

Well I have to admit I do spend a lot of time sitting here in front of the computer, but I make a point of going out everyday and do my walking thing...have to anyway...I don't have a car, so I do walk quite a bit to go anywhere like the supermarket...and living in an apartment building that is a walk up..that is no elevator I guess you can consider a bit of exercise...especially when lugging up a 20lb bag of cat litter even with a grocery shopping wagon...LOL

Hiya Pyewacket, and thanks for jumping in :) I should start pushing myself to 1st of all take a break every hour or so, and at least go downstairs and into the garden.
Than after starting with the yoga all should start getting better, or so I hope. I am blessed to not have to get our groceries, as my partner does it. if I go with him he spends twice as much because there are always things that I like to have in the fridge, with the consequence that it gets purchased, and gets in the fridge, but often rots without me even tasting it because I am simply with "hungry eyes" while in a shop - cannot blame him he prefers to go and shop by himself, can you ;) LOL

I'm a chair/bed potato. Most of my free time is spent in my chair in front of my computer, or just sleeping in bed, not on the couch. C:
I do go out for walks everyday. I take my dog for walks twice a day, except when it's raining. But apart from that, I don't do much physical activity, and I'm not fond enough of sports to want to do more.

Hi Thirteenth, thanks for jumping in :) At least you do walk daily, which is great :) I'd like doing it too, but hate the rain and here the rains will start shortly and be so for months...:(

I think, I am more towards being a couch potato. My job profile doesn't allow too much physical activity and ofcourse I am not an excercise freak as well. Things were diferent though. As a child I was very sporty and active. That is a normal ionstince though but I think I wa well above average.

I want to go out more often and learn a new sports! ^__^
when I was in school I was a very active girl. I participated in many of my school activities and that included sports, dancing, group competitions... I sweated a lot. I gained a lot of friends. I met different people. ^__^
now I work in an office, it seems that all my energy has all been used up. ^__^;; I tend to prefer watching tv or surfing the net more than going out and have some fun. I often feel lazy to go out and just want to stay in the house. ^__^;;
maybe it goes with the age?? LOL but I'm only 25. LOL

Both! I enjoy playing baseball but none of the other sports. I'm very active whenever I'm outside working in my yard/woods around me or helping someone with their property. Then, I can also be a couch potato parked in front of my puter.
