I applied at a local store where I live, pretty small town pop. 6,600 give or take, and once I filled out the application I had to take a personality test. Ok, I thought, never done this before. Im a good person, this should be a breeze.....I didnt pass it. Several emotions spun around me like a wheel on a game show and landed on anger...lol I did this all online, so the flood of questions I had about this little personality test were left up in the air.
Is my attitude about the workplace and the people I work with twisted?? Is it so wrong that I want to just go to work, do my job to the best of my ability, help out where I can, be honest and then go home?
I was asked several of the same questions repeatedly only worded differently with different choices to answer with. Mainly questions concerning theft and conflicts between employees and/or customers. First of all, my answers were not any of the multiple choice answers that they gave me to choose from. So I couldnt really answer the questions the way I wanted too. Secondly, I was honest! For crying out loud I actually told the truth and it wasnt what they wanted to hear. Thirdly, the scenarios and what would you do section really blew my mind with leaving so much more to the scenario, I didnt see the black and white to the question. My answer and reaction to the scenario would depend on many more factors than werent given!
So what did I learn from all this? I learned that Im not fit to work with the public and I love the public, I love people! What a disappointment! I learned that lying is the best policy and that I should quickly learn how to bull-s people so that I can get ahead in life, honesty is NOT the best policy. I learned that meeting someone and getting the feel of their personality by "observation" and "conversation" is out the door now that you can take a "personality test" and be defined by someone else as to who you "really" are. I mostly learned that Im a piece of paper and no one really likes what they are reading, but its me and Im proud of whats on that paper because they are MY acomplishments and achievments, and the answers I gave were honest and logical.
Aaah I feel better now, thank you for allowing me to rant! :)

Ya know, I think those personality tests are pretty stupid. Like you said, what if NONE of the answers apply? Mostly what they try to do is see if you're consistent or a theif. But the good old fashion talking to people to figure out ther personality is really the best way to do it.
I think you'd be great working with people!!! Don't give up!

Well I dont practice theivery....lol but yeah most of the questions were about that, and with really corny scenarios. Im thinking this would be ok for Cleaver country, I felt like I was in the 50's. lol I mean if I see someone else stealing something, Im sorry but Im not going to be a tattle tale and tell. They wont be stealing for long, I believe in Karma. And if they hired someone that was stealing, then I guess the personality test didnt do them any good now did it? LOL

Hi my friend. i don't think there is such a thing in those personality tests if you pss it or not. It just all depend from the person working for the store and they just make different types of person they want to have there. But it is wrong they have been told you, you didn't pass it. Such a bulls**t. But you know what? it is their problem they just don't know what kinda person they are missing and let them find there some jerk work for them.

Hey Girl, I dont care that its this old. Thanks for replying though! lol
I know they are a bunch of BS, most employers use them now from what I know, after the fact. lol I took one a really long time ago, but hadnt seen or heard them used since then til now. Oh well, I was just ranting that day, wasnt very happy. I guess its a bland subject to some like you said!

What a load of cobblers, there is only one place where these stupid personality tests belong and that is in the shredder. I don't know why they give them out to people, because the results are not accurate, as you have proved, filling in bits of paper shouldn't tell your prospective employer what kind of person you are. They should judge that from your character and how can you tell what a person is like by filling in boxes? It's a complete joke and if they don't employ you my friend it's their loss, not yours and sadly in this life honesty is NOT the best policy.

Thank you Wolfie,
As I told Dawn above here, I had been asked what I would have done if I witnessed someone stealing what would I do? First I would point out that your test failed you, you hired someone stealing, and secondly that I would like to clarify my position as security....right? LOL I dont think I applied for security.
I know Im better than the test portrayed me to be. But it still hit below the belt! Haha

You have my deep sympathy. They gave me those personality tests when I was in grade nine to determine the course of my future employment. Now I have good motor skills, but as it were they decided that I should work in an office. Just on my motor skills? Not on my personality? That meant my desire to become a nurse and go on the mission fields and my other choice, writing stories went out the window. They had a bunch of courses all lined up for me and I was never suited to be an office worker. I do things on my own, I have too much imagination. In fact, in one office I was writing my story on my lunch breaks and was imagining the office staff as coming from another planet, and not who they were.
When I quit working, and was able to stay at home and work on my stories I was never happier.

Thank you Suspenseful. I know where I want to be and what I want to be doing. I know I didnt want the job for which the personality test came from, but I wasnt having any luck in my chosen field. Something will come along for me, its just not the right time. Im staying positive! :)
