2 Weeks Of Kindergarden And Then No Longer Able To Attend?!

Yeah theres NO mistake in my subject its ment just as I typed it! So 2 weeks of getting everything worked out perfectly (bus and lunch ect) and I get a call saying that due to overflow that Friday would be the last day my daughter will be able to attend the school in which she was enrolled in. Yes public school and its the school that we are assigned to by our home address. I dont understand HOW they kept letting people enroll children for kindergarden after 60 kids had already registered. Its elementry math 3 teachers and a limit of 20 kids per class means STOP AT 60! So I have attended Back to School Night and my daughter has started to make friends and came out of her shell, only to be named as "overflow" and left to fend for our selves at a new school with no bus to get her there! But yet the districts policy is that if your assigned school is 1.2 miles or more from your home free transportation via bus is provided, BUT not for kids effected by overflow! Why? I think that we should have been warned of this being a possiblility before school started so that as parents we could have seen what other options we had so that could have tried other schools so they could have stayed where they started. 2 weeks is a lot of time when your 5!! Well I will share more as it unflods please any advice or helpful words on this. How would you feel if you fell victim of "overflow" or have you? share please Im so mad and I feel so helpless, I need the supposrt of mylot!

I would think if there is such overflow the school needs to make room for another class and another teacher to be hired. this is ludicrous. is this full day kindergarten? if so, then they should consider going to half day K in order to get all in. Is your daughter of compulsory age? can you home teach her kindergarten?

They used to be 1/2 day K classes. I do think the idea would suit the problem however full day has many benifits for your child. Im not sure about the home schooling her thing because I do need to go back to work ASAP, I am off for now till I get this all strightened out. Would be hard to survive with out my income =( or that would be a good alternitive. I am just so P.O'd at all this because I really liked her teacher and his teaching style as well with his way with the students. Plus my daughter was home with me up until now and so it took her the first 2 weeks to come out of her shell and now they want me to make her go throught that all over again!! Oh and to top it off I got the school news letter in the mail Saturday, and it said that open enrollment students we let know as of the 3rd day of school if they were allowed in or not!! SO why am I finding out the 2 week of school that they have 6 too many kintergardners. Plus they have 3 K classes why cant they keep 2 of the "overflow" kids in each of the classes so at least they will still see the same kids. For a 5 year old 2 weeks is a very long time. Keep you all updated after my meeting with the district in the morning! thanks for you responce and support =)

I've never heard of such a thing. I'd be very upset. All these sudden major changes are hard enough on our kids without having them shifted around. Isn't the school staff supposed to be some sort of mentor for these kids? How are they going to learn to be organized if the adults around them can't do it? I wish I had some advice for you. Good luck!

I do feel empathy for you and your daughter.I find it very odd that you never received a warning of such a possibility. How is it that no one informed you of this before your little girl began attending class? At least young kids are resilient and shouldn't have any ill effects from being transferred.I'm sure your daughter will make many new friends in the new school and soon forget about the previous two weeks.

Thank You! I am sure that she will make friends at the new school too. but that doesnt make it right. I also think that I should have be made aware of the over enrollment at some point even if it was on back to school night 3 days before the phone call. I think the rightthing to do would have been when I was at the office turning in the paperwork that I could have been made aware of the issue and that I would be one of those effected so then I would have had the choice to take my chances or desided to go and register her in a different school so that she could have started the first day where she would be able to stay.

i may not be from where you are, but in anyway i look at this, it's crazy. children are not a piece of commodity wereyou can toss them anywhere you want, they have to be given extra attention, they are the future of any country. don't let this incident pass. you have all the right to demand, you are a taxpayer. good luck.

thanks I feel the same way about her being tossed around it made me so mad!! I cant even put it into words, however as the rules state I have the right to give my input on which school i want her to be in however the district does not have to give me what i would like, I understood that. however I didnt realize that once we got all settled in that we would have the "assigned school by our home address" taken right from under us! I am still shocked, and dont know whats going to happen come monday I do know that they will be out money because my daughter will not be in a classroom that day! I am still so MAD! thanks again for your support!

That is completely outrageous. I think I would have gone a little crazy if that happened to one of my kids. You are so right that two weeks is a long time for a five year old and getting used to ANOTHER school is going to take a toll. Plus, if this school screwed up, they should be obligated to transport the kids to the other school. I think I would fight about that one until I won. What they expect you to do? Allow her to walk alone? Drive her every day? Why should you when all the other kids get free transportation and, due to their error, not only does your child have to go through a whole process of getting to know new kids and new procedures but not have a way to get to the new school? That is really wrong on all kinds of levels. I hope the parents affected will get together and demand at least transportation if nothing else. I am so sorry you daughter has to go through this and you too!

Thanks and Yes I am going to FIGHT them on this, and YES I have been alot crazy all Day!!!! I have already been to the district and have an oppointment for monday morning. They said that transportation should become avalible but do to someones error they wont have any transportation as of now and cant tell me when they might be able to provide it, I mean come on if I owned a theater and it had seats for 100 people why would I sell over 100 tickets per show?? same logic as not registering more then 60 kindergardeners. But the did however inform me that if any spots open up then she will be 6 on the list to be able to come back? WHAT? Why would any parent want to bounce there kid around at the districts control? Am I suppost to be happy that she will be placed on a waiting list because Im not! GRR im so P.O.ed thanks for your responce

My child is a first grader this year. Her school had an influx of students as well. But instead of kicking the children out to other schools, they hired a new teacher instead. Is this not an option at the school your child attends? It sounds like the district is growing and they don't have enought teachers. The problem is not going to go away. At my daughter's school they even sent notes home to all the parents asking for volunteers to go to the new teachers class so they didn't have to randomly pull out students who didn't want to go.

I agree the problem is not going to go away. I have no idea if hiring more teachers would be an option but from sitting at the district office for a few hours on friday it sounds like they are having a hard time fitting kids in all different grades, I dont think that moving kids from school to school (specially after the school year has started) is a good idea. Its not an edasy thing to start a new school after class has already started. Thanks for your comment and I will bring up the idea of hiring more teachers on monday when I have a meeting with the school district.
