Are you a "do it right now" or a "maybe do it later" person?

I'm a mix between the two. Because there are days that even if I really have to finish up something, I get sidetracked by other things. I end up, leaving it to be done later. But there are days, that I do try to do the things that doesn't have to done the next day. I have heard this from a radio DJ one time. She said, it's better to do the things that you need to do today, so that tomorrow you've got all the time to just sit back and relax.

Hello Lakota. What you've added hits the spot, too. If we keep putting things off to be done in a much later date, we just can't be sure if we can still have that kind of chance to go back for it.

I'm also a mix between the two. I do some things right away if it is really important and needed as soon as possible. Most of the time I do things later especially if the deadline is not near yet, or even some times I start to do something and then I will stop and then continue it on a later time and so on =)

I bought this cross-stitch set with a pattern named Maritime Scene years ago, it's an eight pages pattern. I've started cross-stitching it and told my mother that I will finish it and give it to her as a birthday present. I think it has already been five years from when I started and I haven't finished it until now, I just bought her a different gift every year.

I do that, too. Stopping halfway through the task at hand, losing interest, then just deciding to do it on a later date. Sometimes, I do get back to it at the scheduled date but there are times that I've never gotten to finish the task at all, when it's already been waiting for ages.

If I were in your shoes, it might take me longer than that.LOL. I'm awful at cross-stitching. Hey, it's quite understable if you can't find the time to finish it. It's quite large a pattern. I've done one too and the size of it was just 1/4 of what you have. And it took me months!LOL Don't worry, sooner or later, you'll get the time you need to finish that. And I'm sure your mom will be more than happy when she receives it.

I come from Latin America and I tend to leave things for later. My husband says that is the "manana" syndrome! Dont do today, what you can leave till tomorrow!

Hi sylvia. Here in the Philippines, it's called like that too, The "Manana habit". Always puttings things off when it can be done and should be done at once. As for what's happening to me lately, I'm more on the "do it later" habit.

I'm a mix between the two. If I know it has to be done then I try to do it then. But sometimes I'll get sidetracked by something else and whatever it is needing to be done won't be done until later.

Distractions can be very hard to fight. Especially when that certain kind of distraction is something that greatly interests you.

I can be both. It depends on my mood. Sometimes when I think that it is an urgent task, I would always do it right now. If it is less urgent, I would do it later so that I won't feel so pushed. But anyway I think that it is still better to do it right now. This way you will feel more relieved from worrying about something that is waiting for you to do. "Do it right now" is always the best policy.

You're back!^_^ I was starting to wonder where you were. I haven't felt your "presence" for some time. Anyway, yes, it's way better to stick by the "do it now" policy. No worries, no frustrations and most all, no regrets if we ever try to postpone to do something and to just find out later that it's too late to go back and work on it.

I am terrible for putting things off. I'm forever leaving things to the last minute or thinking "I'll just have a cup of tea and then i'll do...." Take today for example. I have just been on to my electrcity company who keep messing up my account. I am still getting bills addressed to the old tenant and i moved in over 4months ago. I keep meaning to call them, again and remind them that i live here! But i've been putting it off ofr weeks until today i got a letter addressed NOT to me saying they will come and cut me off! Sorry for sort of going off the issue but as you can see i am always procrastinating!

That's ok hailie. It's just ok to letting the steam off of you. But it sure is a big "uh-oh" when it comes to electric companies. But just think, that once they visit you and realize that the they have made a mistake with your billing account, your problem is completely solved.

i am a "do it right now" person... whenever i can, i try to finish up every work that i can so that i can have a peace of mind... because the later i do it, the more nervous and i keep on thinking about the unfinished work... so i prefer to do it as soon as i can whenever i can...

Yes, you're right, lingli. For every task that we've finished, we can let out a sigh of relief for having it done. No more worries. Unfinished tasks can really get on our nerves because we won't stop worrying about it and that frustrates us too.

I am like you and a bit of a between person. It depends on the task and my mood really. There are things I will put off as long as I can, like washing my car. I hate doing that, so (and I can't beleive I am admitting this but..)I will go around town with dirt and bird droppings on it and hubby has a fit. LOL, but I hate the task of washing it. But other things I will go ahead and do to get out of the way, such as cleaning the house. The sooner I get it done the better I feel.

Oh my goodness, sunshine! You never fail, EVER, to make me laugh!!!^_^ I like the way you respond. You're just so funny! Don't worry, you're not the only one who drives around, with a car decorated with bird droppings. Now, my husband who loves his car so much, doesn't have the time sometimes to wash it. So, he has no choice but to use it, bird droppings and all! I understand how you feel when it comes to washing it. I tried it once. And, boy, was I so tired after the task and wet too. So, I never attempted to do it again. It's my husband's car so he should wash it. Because I've got more chores on my shoulders than he has. Hey, don't loose that sense of humor, ok?!^_^

I'm a kind of person who used to have something to work unto rather sit down and relax. Thats why even my free time I used to done things not even in my plan coz I don't pile things and being exhausted when trying to finished it. The DJ was right it is better to do things now maybe tomorrow you might forget it.

You're very correct about the forgetting part. Because that's what I'm going through lately. I tend to put some things off, thinking of getting back to them. But as what you've said, sometimes I completely forget about it. Only to be reminded after some time.

I am a definite procrastinator and my dear old Dad used to say..."don't do today what you can put off until tomorrow"...lol....he was very laid back.
• Philippines

that was sure a funny advice coming from your dad.LOL. But at least even if he's like that, if he can still do those things, it doesn't matter at all if he's a laid back person.

LOL. I'm like that too. But what I've always postponed was my scrapbooking. Ever since I got hooked with MyLot, it really takes a lot of my effort to concentrate on the task at hand.

Relationship - Every day is a hate and love relationship.
Hello jcj_111776, I agree with what the dj said, Its better to finish up on things much earlier so later on when your done you got lots more time for fun and relaxation. I am for do it right now rather that to put it aside and finish it later. Because that way I am not pressured or cramming to finish the work that needs to be done. :-)

Hi there eprado! There's nothing better but to sit back and enjoy whatever hobbies or things that help us relax. Sometimes when I try to finish all the things that needs to be done, I just motivate myself by remembering what the DJ said. I keep telling myself, just one more and then you can relax and do whatever you want without worrying that you have unfinished business!

I'm a do it now unless I am ill or money shy to do it now, then I'm a do as soon as possible person. Also some ideas it's better to wait until you have all the facts.
• Philippines

I understand what you mean. Even if we do want to get things finished at once, if we don't have the energy of the enthusiasm to do it, we'll surely have difficulty trying to finish it.

I unfortunately fall into the later category of may be later type. this has brought loads of trouble to me.but however i try to complete the work i procastinate and in the end i am always late for any assignment or work.i am taking certain ways to stop procastination....hope i am better the next time around
• Philippines

Hi murky. Don't lose hope. At least you're trying to put an end to your procastination. And you are aware of it. I guess it just takes practice and regularity of what you want to change.

Well it's true, that we should do the things that we know we can do for tomorrow will be another set of work to start at. I am also in-between, because I need to focus my mind on it and set my priorities on what I should do first. There are times that I do multi-taking, this is a more practical but also a very sensitive approach to work on things. So I just make sure that I'd prioritize the easiest things to do, and worry later of the works that needs proper attention!;)

9 Sep 07
Hey,another point raijin. We should do the things that we think we can do rather than pile them on top of the set of things that are already waiting for you the next day. Unfortunately, that happens to me sometimes. And I have no one to blame but myself.

I'm the one for "do it right now". Actually this is mental attitude. Because many advantages for having this kind of attitude. And the advantages are can be the first for any particular opportunity, spare time avail to do corrections, full of potential energy, avoid last minute action to meet the dateline, feeling better for self-motivation and helper normally come at the end as they look that we are in serious tasks.

You're right, Michael. It's just all comes down to that. I'm glad that you're very firm in what you do. Because I'm still trying to be a "do it now" person. Time is of the essence.

I procrastinate a lot. I know things have to be done but I put them off until the last minute a lot. Sometimes I get things done fast and before they need to be done but usually, I put things off until I am rushed and mad at myself. I need to change that!
• Philippines
9 Sep 07
I know how you feel. Sometimes, I argue with myself. I keep telling myself not to put things off. Because if I keep doing that, I'm just piling up things after things to do. Up to the point that I don't know what to do first.
