Do You Have Mini-Breaks During Your Computer Time?

Do you tend to give yourself some mini-breaks during the time you are using your computer to rest your eyes? Or are you so addicted to the internet that once you are on that chair, you will stick with it till the computer is switched off? I usually give myself a mini-break of 5-10 minutes after a couple hours of working on the internet, mostly resting my eyes. But sometimes when my concentration sets in (like today), I don't even want to move away from that chair *laughs*.

I understand. I have to make myself lay down sometimes and rest. i am disabled and when my back really starts killing me I'll make myself take a break. Good question though because I've been trying to teach myself to take breaks. it should be a concern for all of us who do this regularly. I've even tried the chair exercises. ; )

Yes I think having those breaks would really help to relax the tense muscles and mind. Looking at something green would relax the eyes (doctor said).

Uhh, yes, I just added vinegar to the rinse cycle of my dishwasher. I call my mimi-breaks "housework." But seriously, responses to myLot discussions are good mini-breaks, too. Sometimes I get up and walk around a bit while I'm trying to think up a good answer.

Oh really? I usually pick the discussions all out and then I would try to answer all of them at once *laughs*. I will take a mini-break soon after reading everything on this discussion. I am thirsty *laughs*!

Yes, I always refrain minute or two to rest. It depends on what I feel, of what urges me to do and also try to look for some words that is more appropriate to use here on mylot. I also try to stand up for a while, to relax my back and stretch my fingers. This provides me another good mood to continue what I am doing on the PC, a little rest/mini-break sure gives us a lot of help!;)

Yes, I love getting up and walk around, getting a drink or two, think about what to do next before heading back to the computer! It's like little break for the energy recharge!

I too try to give myself breaks from working on the computer. But it seems to me that when I sit down and start working time just flies by. I usally plan on getting up and walking around once an hour but there are many times when I find I have been working on the computer for three to four hours straight. I have recently set a timer so that I don't spend to much time on the computer. But that is more so I will be able to spend time with my family. My Income For Life www.jaxdomain.ws

Me too! Especially when I am bad mood. Either I work too hard on the computer, or I would go to bed! Two extremes.

I write for a living and spend hour upon hour online and sometimes don't even take a bathroom break for six or seven hours. I even eat at the computer. I know my eyes and body need a break and I have to stop every couple of hours and walk around as well as rest my eyes (lots of headaches!) but I don't do it. Starting now, I am going to. Now and then I will look up at the TV for a few minutes while working but that really isn't a break. My husband is always telling me to get up and walk around for my circulation and he is right. I just don't do it. I get alllllllll caught up and hours pass.

Oh or just spend a minute or two in between to look at something green, a plant or something. The doctor says it relaxes the eyes! Hope it will be useful!

I always try to make sure that I have some breaks, I always get up to get myself a drink, snack or to go to the toilet, and I make sure I walk around the house and stretch my legs as well as my eyes and mind.

Yes me too! But sometimes I would be too obsessed to give myself that break and I would end up delaying the time for the break *laughs*.

Haha, I get like that sometimes too. As does my boyfriend. We'll decide at 11am or so that we need to make some lunch (or breakfast if we've gotten that caught up =P) and then realise we haven't moved at 1pm. *blush*

I think, going for mini breaks is good idea and it is useful too. We can very well re-charge our energies if we go for break. But if we continue to sit on computer for hours together, it does effect our normal level of concentration. I do not go for break, I do it at one stretch and say if one hour is available to me for mylotting, I will finish my task within one hour, without going for a short break.

While in office if i have some important tast to complete i will sit 1-3 hours and complete the work without any break. But if i have enough time i will take break every one hour to give rest to my eyes. Iam not a addict and even at home while doing mylot or anyother chatting in net i take couple of breaks otherwise i get a sort of boring sitting in the same place for more than an hour.I think its better to take break rather to sit in computer without rest.

Hi there. I always make a point to get up and exercise my legs, get the blood circulating, especially doing long periods on the computer... As well as to give my eyes a good rest from the glare and strain... This is good ergonomics...

I don't have this habit. I try to take advantage of each minute when I am online. But you are right in this aspect. Maybe I have to also get used to this habit because it's good for eyesight.

Some days I am so focused on what I'm doing online that I barely move for hours from my chair. Fortunately for me, I don't use a typical office chair or my legs and back would be sore for days. Right now I am using a big over stuffed chair that belonged in my living room before making it's sojourn to the computer office room. Sometimes I think it would be better for my brain to have more small breaks during the day. I was just thinking that the other day. Sometimes when I work just five or ten minutes at a time online I am more focused on my task and actually get much more done. At times when I am exclusively online, while everyone in the house is asleep, I tend to do less productive things and have much more time to waste. Then when everyone wakes up, I suddenly remember all the things I should have done online and have to hurry back to do just one or two things. Mostly, though I am off line when my daughter is awake, so that limits what I can do during the day. And, by the time she goes to bed, I am way too tired to think of what I should have done! On days like this, when she is sleeping late I am catching up on work online and posting to friends discussions. I have been at it for about an hour, ever since I finished cleaning the refrigerator and kitchen. So, I guess it's about time for a mini-break. Thanks for the reminder.

Hello wondericequeen, Aha, I always have mini-breaks in between long break... *laughs* The longest I will be in front of the computer is just like an hour. Within that one hour, I will have one or two mini-breaks *smiles* I hate being in front of the computer for too long. It makes my eyes teary and I can get head ache easily.

I feel the same way. I try to "pace myself" but sometimes I just keep going. The good thing is that this computer goes so slowly on dial up that I have time to start a wash or something else.

Yeah a like to have a mini breaks every 2 hours or so, just make my new tea, waht I have near my computer or when I am hungry just to fix something fast and bring it here with me. Also sometimes my back hurt, so I just stand up and stretch a little bit.But I am often like you, just foget about the time and evyrthing around and find myself siting here for hours. It feels sometimes like an addition.

Actually, computer time is often - my break. After the baby is asleep I'll play the just one more post - or if looking at houses or something - just one more house or website. Then finally off to my long break - sleep!

When I'm at home I totally watch tv while I"m on the computer so I'm constantly looking away. Plus I get up to find my cat and pet him for a bit. I never just sit on the computer for hours on end, except when I'm at work because, well it's my job!

Yes,while doing my work ,I love to take a break because working non-stop for hours gives us a headache and gets our eyes straining ..So i take a break in every 2 hours of work .Have a drink or stretch myself or gossip with my friends which makes me a little relaxed Sometimes it is so hectic that u have a lot of work and you really cannot take a break and at that time I really find it hard to take a break and work continuosly..
