My table top PC monitor is 5 years old. I am planning to buy a new one because I am always trying to adjust and readjust the brightness and sharpness and even the color combination. Sometimes it blinks and just stop displaying images. Is anyone of you using an LCD monitor for your table top PC ? If so, can you share your opinion about the advantages and the disadvantages of using an LCD monitor compared to a non-LCD monitor? Your response will be greatly appreciated.

Advantages of LCD to CRT: 1. Low radiation. It means it is more friendly to the eyes 2. Low power consumption 3. Consumes less space 4. In case you want to change places, can be carried easily Disadvantages: 1. Cost twice or more than CRT 2. When damaged, repair is not that easy

I agree. I would like to add a few things as well: 1. The prices are higher than CRTs yet far better than they were even one or two years ago. My 22.5" LCD was approximately $399US less than a year ago when I bought it; it is now available at some places for approximately $260US. 2. I have seen LCDs incur damage directly to the screen surface, including punctures, and still function, albeit with obvious impairment. 3. LCDs also have a narrower "viewing angle." When observed beyond this angle the picture will appear to have distorted colors and/or blacks that appear too light or grey. You will have to adjust the position of the monitor to suit your seating position. 4. Shopping around for things such as LCDs (or any type of display) is _best_ done at a retail store, or somewhere you can actually see the picture quality of a display for yourself. Mere specifications are not always an accurate portrayal of the actual picture, i.e., while display "X" may be capable of a higher resolution than display "Y," the picture may actually look poorer. Some displays will have poorer color quality as compared to others. Some may have issues where the light from the backlight (the light used to shine through and thus illuminate the picture in an LCD) may "bleed" through near the edges of the monitor, or the display may be visibly unevenly lit.

well one thing i can tell yo is that the lcd montors give you nice clarity and the images and text are very clearn in those monitors. so people who use computer a lot should go for them. also they use less power so it is a energy saver and let me tell you monitor is the main thing which increases the light bill and nothing else. then also they are good cause they dnt radiate much like the CRT monitors so good for eyes. all in all they are new technology and the best

I think the new LED-backlit LCDs are just awesome! I like the small footprint and the stylish mounts the flat screens offer, and since the clarity just keeps getting better and better and the prices lower and lower, all I can say, is life is good with this technology.
