cockfighting... Is it a gambling pastime?

I just went recently to on of the cockfighing arena here in the Philippines and it was really a breath taking experience. I can say that these guys really are into gambling and not knowing the effects of it to the animals. Yes it's true that hey really have big bets on each fightingcocks they chose and some of them goes home happy but some of them goes home broke. If given a chance of going to these arenas what will you think and feelwhile these brutal fighting goes on?
