Oh No! the internet goes out!

Has your internet ever went out and you realized just HOW much you really rely on it for daily use?
I have cable internet and so it's kind of just always on... always there. Last Sunday it started acting up being real slow and everything. This was frustrating seeing as how I was doing something for work! This Friday night as I was trying to finish up this project for work (which was ALL based on the internet) my internet just went out! I was so upset!
My landlord didn't know what happened either and I was completely without internet all day Saturday (and I'm so thankful it was just ONE day).
The good news was I got a lot of cleaning done since I wasn't spending my Saturday on the internet. I can't say the same for today since I have to catch up what I missed yesterday!
Do you flip out when your internet goes out? Do you ever realize just how much you NEED it when it's not there?

Oh WOW! That would SUCK!
My connection get severed some when I'm on my laptop and my hubby is in here on the desk top. It drives me crazy!!
I think we've only had it out altogether once like that. It's been a while and I sure hope it doesn't again! Especially now that I've got several communities I love online.

ha ha yeah. It sucked because it was like, I had work i needed to get done. Fortunately my landlord is really good about calling to get it fixed as his one son that lives with him does internet school (which I am starting soon myself) and his wife just hates not having it. so i was so glad it wasn't out long!

That is frustrating, I totally agree. My husband used to live in a condo where the net went down randomly for hours at a time. It would happen all day for 3-4 days, then he'd call, they'd come out, and it would be working so they would say they can't test it if it is working. This repeated for almost a year! It was to the point where I thought Road Runner totally sucked. However when he moved into our house, we had no choice but to use Road Runner and luckily we have never gone down since he moved in there last year. Here's hoping it stays that way!!
The worst thing about the random down times is that there were times in his condo where I went to his house specificially to go online and do wedding stuff or whatever, and it wouldn't work! Other days I had planned to go play games at his house b/c his computer allowed games mine doesn't. Get into a game and... bam, disconnected. ARGG!!
I flip out when it goes down. However, if I choose to take a break I can go days and days without it. It's just irritating when the internet chooses to take a break and leaves you stranded. Also, I don't flip out when the power goes out b/c I can't blame the internet for that... but if it is only the internet, I go nuts!

Yeah we do rely on it a lot. I do want to throw my computer out the window sometimes when, for example, I have 5 minutes to print a map and Yahoo Maps suddenly decides to move like an ant! So I've learned to prepare and print/save maps in advance. I can't stand when I just want to do something real quick and it won't load. It's like Murphy's law, it always goes wrong when you need it the most!

Oh man that sucks. yeah, see it was just that I HAD this stuff to do for work and I'd even left work early to get a head start on the stuff i was gonna do from home. and then the internet goes out and i'm like nooo! cause I needed to get that stuff done!
That's horrible that it would go out like that all the time! I have comcast cable internet where I am and fortunately it always works. It was actually the router that had the problem and not the internet at all. I also go to school online so I kind of need my internet you know?
I hate, sometimes, how much we rely on the internet these days!

Awwww...it sucks when the Internet goes out! I never thought I would freak out if mine ever went out, but it went out for two days several months ago and I thought I would die. I was so bored and it made me realize how much time I spend dorking it up on the net.:P That really sucks for since you had stuff to do for work. We didn't get to spend quality time together either.:P We have cable internet too, and it surprises me how much trouble we have with ours. I think our internet/cable provider is jsut crappy. Anyway...glad you're back.

But I never have it completely out for the whole day like that unless the power is out then it is different :).... I hope it is not happening to me... I will be going crazy

I've never had problems with it in the year and a half I've been here. I live in a garage apartment so my internet is the same as my landlords. It was just so inconvenient. I thought it'd be out a few days so I was excited it was back today. I hate not being without the internet!

It's funny that I have only been online for about four years but last week the net was down for some reason. I have DSL and haven't had a problem before. I didn't know what to do with myself. I tried to remember what I would do in a day when I didn't have a computer. But then I had children home full time and was too busy to get bored. I was telling my sister that I need to get a hobby that isn't net. So that when it isn't there I have a back up plan for my sanity. HEHE

I also have cable internet, so I can use my computer 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It doesn't happen so often now, but whenever it goes out, I feel completely lost and I miss it so much! I am dependent on it I guess, especially for writing and to communicate with family and friends. Like you say, it is a NEED!

LoL I also act like that, I get cranky at times too. Ever since I came to mylot, I found a more productive time while on the net. I was furious during the first month my broadband service having troubles, because it took me almost a week to fix my connection.
Since then, everything seems to be working fine now.

I am lucky to have it all the time, i think i won't stay at home without this, i have to go out for shopping or soeting else then. my scanning and cleaning is done on friday and its ok i can work at that time

Hello!
Before, I don't rely on the internet, I wasn't too dependent on it. Maybe if you've posted this discussion like long time ago [which is impossible...*duh to me*] I would say that I don't care if there's no internet connection, who cares.
Now, I can say that internet is one of my basic needs. In my work, I need to be online most of the time, download emails, chat to clients, if ever I miss a day not being able to go online it'll be hard as some of our clients are from other countries. And working away from my family especially my baby, internet is very valuable as it is our means of communication. Online I can see them on the webcam and can talk to them. If I won't be able to go online for days I will freak out for sure. But there are solutions, if we have some problems with our connection at home, I still can connect in the office and if not in the office there are some coffee shops like Costa Coffee or Starbucks that gives you wi-fi connection. All I can say is "iloveyou internet" *wehehe*.
ciao! =)

Ha ha. well yeah I was just talking about the fact that I *needed* it for something I had to do for work. I didn't even care about the fun part of it. it was that it's needed!
Like if I had no internet i couldn't pay my bills! (i pay them all online) and I couldn't do the thing i had to do for work. YOu know it's frustrating how much we need it for real things sometimes.

Hi!^_^
As what my husband like to say, there are now 5 basic needs of man: 1. food 2. clothing 3. shelter 4. cable tv and 5. the internet!
With our old internet provider, things can get ugly and so frustrating. We even have 3 straight weeks of no internet! But like you, when there's no internet, there's an available time now for the other things.
Between my husband and me, he's the one who totally cranky when the internet suddenly goes out and he already written something so long and invested so much time and effort in doing it. And when he presses the ENTER button only to be greeted with a "page cannot be displayed"!
It happened to me too, several times and I just wanted to punch someone!lol

Yea it is rather disheartening. But since I don't depend on it too much I can just go do one of my other hobbies. But having the net up at least allows me to do other fun stuff, like come to mylot.

yeah well I needed it for work. And I'm starting school in a week and a half and I'll need it for that cause I'm going to school Online. So that's more what I meant. When you need it for more than just fun! People rely on it so much these days for paying bills or work related stuff or even school. It's terrible when you don't have it.
