Dealing with swear words in movies.

Even though it's easy enough to check a movie's rating (PG, PG 13, etc.) to see if it would be appropriate for all family members and just turn off the ones that have too strong of a rating, I've found that some older movies don't have ratings. That makes it tricky knowing what the content is likely to be. Sometimes you will be in the middle of a perfectly good older movie, from the 1960's and suddenly one of the characters will start swearing. And, you know how little kids are, once they've heard it, you can't make them forget. Most modern films would have a PG13 rating for that kind of action, but not some older films. So, what do you do when you are watching a movie with your family and suddenly someone starts swearing on screen? Or, a love scene appears that you had not known was in the movie? Do you turn the channel? Turn off the TV? File a complaint with the local cable company? What should a parent do?
