Do you save your change?

If you save your change daily, you will have a great amount of money saved up by the end of the month. Do you save your change? My husband empties his pockets every night and I take the quarters for lunch money, but I put the rest of the change in a piggy bank. When we are getting ready for vacation, I usually open the piggy bank and start counting. Last year the piggy filled up before we went on vacation and I had over $75 in the bank. What do you save your change for?

I do. I rob my husbands walet of all his change (5, 10, 20 and 50 cents) and I empty my walet every day. every month I take the money (between $30 and $85) to the bank and put it in my sons acount. He has a nice sum in there and he gets interest on it as well so we get about $30-$40 a year interest on it. Its not a lot but it adds up. He can do what ever he wants with that money when he is old enough.

That is nice of you to put it in an account for your son. You might want to make it a college fund for him or something so he doesn't just blow it. Teenagers seem to go threw money very quickly without even thinking about what they are buying.

Here in Australia we dont have to wory about that sort of thing as education is more or less very afordable, the goverment gives you a loan that you can pay it bit by bit till you die without going into details.

That is exactly what I do-- well minus taking the quarters- I leave them too. They add up the quickest- I send in checks for my daughters lunch money. It is easier that way. I hoard my sig. others change from time to time- he has so much. And I add it to mine. My daughter and I count it from time to time and roll it up. When we get ready to go on vacation we cash it all in. It's fun and extra spending money!

My daughters lunch is 1.75 also- It's easier to send her in a check to put on her account-- and we just add more when it gets low- I could not believe the times when I'd run to the ATM- because I had no cash!

That is a good idea to pay ahead for the lunches. I haven't done this but it is offered. I guess it seems easier to me to budget it out weekly, but really it is a pain going to the bank every Saturday to get a bunch of ones and a roll of quarters. I think I'll check into prepaying~ thanks for the idea.

Don't you love it when you count it all up:) I know that the quarters add up the quickest, but of course school lunch is $1.75 so every day I am giving out 6 quarters to the boys who buy lunch and 2 for my daughters snack.

We do save our change. You never know when it will come in handy. The last time we used it for kennel fees when we went on vacation. I have always saved money from when I was a little kid. I never asked a parent for money or anyone else for that matter. I always earned it. I don't work now, so whatever I do make, goes towards next year's vacation. Its always nice to have some extra spending money.

That is a great idea to use it for Kennel fees. They can be very pricey! It's good to make your own money.

This is funny timing so please excuse the long and slightly irrelevant story... On Saturday night I sent the boy that was living here down to the store for a pizza and a gallon of milk with our truck. He managed to wreck and total the truck on his way home. The gallon of milk flew out the broken window and landed in the road but DIDN'T break! I can't bring myself to throw out the plastic jug that survived all that especially since the truck didn't. So I now have a new "piggy bank" that is specially for a vehicle fund or repair fund! Hopefully I can fill it with more than change too. We never use any change for purchases so it does pile up pretty quickly, I just wish we got more big silver ones than the little copper ones LOL!

our truck - front end of our recently wrecked truck, this pic doesn't show all of the damage.
He's got a concussion and bad whiplash and a sore nose along with overall achiness but is otherwise fine. He is no longer living here either but that's for the best probably too...he might be 18 but still belongs at his mother's house.

Oh no! That is not a good story regarding the truck! Hope the boy didn't get hurt either. I can see why you wouldn't want to throw away that milk jug. Hope it fills up quickly for you:)

Yes, I save the changes daily. I actually don’t save it myself, my son has his piggy-bank and I just give the changes to him and he puts it there. So this way, I am killing two birds with one stones…one I am saving my changes and I am also giving my son his allowance which pleases him no end. And yes, once the bank is full, its quite a substantial amount. Sometimes we spend it on something, most of the times, we put it in the bank in my son’s name.

Last summer, my husband and I made this 'tin can" project in our church, we know that lose coins are often neglected at homes so what we did, we distributed those cans with the words that said " your coins for my future". Through those coins, we were able to help one kid who was about to stop her schooling and send her back to school, bought her supplies and paid for her miscellaneous fees. Now, we are planning to repeat the same project for the same purpose..We will use the money as support for our scholars.

I do save my change. ALthough, I don't normally keep cash on me, but I have been trying harder to do that more often. Last time I took my change in, I had over $50. I don't know how much I have and I really don't want to know hahaha! I might end up spending it.

I save my change to use the next morning. It takes money to make another money, literally. The Central Banks use tax payers money to make those penies some people just let roll under their beds to be forgotten by time and space, LOLz... Seriously, the Central Banks really use your money to print notes, and mold penies so we aught to keep them and reuse them. Your way of saving it is another great idea to put these penies in circulation again later.

I used to save some, but not the change though. I only spend my money when I need, wise-spender I believe. I am not much into shopping, am lowering down my vices, and make goals to achieve when I have reached my desired amount. Sometimes I give some for those who needs it, not in monetary denomination but in through foods and clothings.

I do save my change in a Tim Hortons coffee can. I make a slit in the can and shake all the coffee out of it. I use the coffee obviously but I use the tin to stuff in all extra money through out the year. Once a year in the summer time my daughter and I take a trip to the city to do a mother/daughter bonding shopping overnight trip. I go to her place early in the morning and we get out the can opener and I open up my can and count my money. What's in the tin is what I have to spend. It's a fun thing to do.

I try to save all of my change. I put all my quarters in one container for xmas. It adds up very quickly. And the rest I put in another jar. That one I won't touch until I take my son to Disney World. My plan is to save enough in that jar to pay for the whole trip, or at least a good chunk. My son is only eight months, so I think I can do it! I'm sure I annoy the cashiers, because I won't use my change for even a penny. My bank also does it if I use my checkcard. They automatically put it in my savings account. Now if only I could get my husband to do it. He laughs at me because I get so excited when I find change in his pocket. Little by little, it really adds up.

That is a great idea to have your bank put the change from your spendings on your cashcard in a savings. I bet you will have plenty of $$ to go to Disney when your son is old enough.

I used to save all of my change as well, but lately I have just been keeping it in my wallet and using it whenever i needed its usually for food now =[. I mostly used my quarters for toll and such. I had my pennies in a seperate jar because I had sooo many, then once in a while id roll my pennies and take em to the bank, once I had over 60 in PENNIES! yea took me over a year to get that much though lol (i used to pick up pennies off the floor, thats how lame i was in high school lol and my friends knew I collected them so theyd always give me their extra pennies)

I don't think that it is lame to pick up a penny if you find it. After all, it's good luck! $60 in pennies is a lot! I would have hated to have to roll all of those.

I had this habit in my childhood times. About 5 to 10 years old kid, I used to save each and every coin that i get. It amounted to a pretty big money out of which i bought a gold chain and a video game box. I was so happy and it gave me a satisfaction like i have achieved something big in my life.
