Sorry friends... I think it is my time to rant now... I work in a large retail company in the customer services department... So I deal with at least 100 customers everyday... I had been working there for almost 3 years now and I am getting tired of customers who keep on asking simple and obvious questions while the signs are in front of their eyes... What's wrong with people nowadays??? Don't they read signs anymore or people are becoming lazier and lazier??? I am getting tired of answering the same questions over and over again while all they have to do is just read the signs right in front of their eyes... I tell my manager about this problem and she says that we can't put anynmore signs as there are enough signs as they are already now... And she says that we just have to be patient and keep on answering their questions while at the same time trying to educate them by pointing to them where the signs are... I can't believe it... I am just tired... For me, when I shop, I will make sure that I do my part and read the signs first before I approach the co-worker to ask questions... But in the place that I work, customers just ask any questions even the simplest and most obvious ones... So, my question is are people becoming lazier and lazier that they don't want to read signs anymore when they are shopping??? How about yourself??? Please share your experience... Thank you in advance for taking times to listen to my rant... Have a nice day everyone...

Hey come on... It's often much faster to ask than to look for the information yourself. :)

Hi did you say you work in customer service? than thats what your supposed to be providing and i guess people think that they dont need to read the sign when your there to answer the questions.Maby your sign dose not fully explain what they want to know, some signs are confusing, customer service is becoming less and less so i guess they are wanting to recieve what little is left.

First of all, I totally agree with you. I used to work in retail, and it would drive me nutty too. But, I also believe with freebc about the over-sensory stimulation. I see that happening all of the time when I go shopping. Second, is your store one of a bazillion that has had a recent "facelift" and changed things around? For instance I went to Wal-Mart the other day, haven't been in ages, but still knew the stor well (I used to work there) but they remodeled and I couldn't find anything. Same with Stop & SHop. So until I get used to the new layout, I always ask a store associate where something is, if I see one around. I hate shopping as is, so the less that I have to look for a product that used to be located where I'm standing, I just ask. Next I would ask you what kinds of signs are you talking about that are right in front of their faces? Also, how many signs are you talking about? Too many signs can be overhwelming (I'm the wife of a sign maker, so I do know). Also, with the world becoming more instant, people want things now, or yesterday. Their lives are busier than ever. No one has time. Heck, why do you think I used Peapod when I can, and buy stuff online? People have just had it! You couldn't pay me enough to work retail again, as I can just imagine how much worse it's gotten from when I used to work in it. Good luck!!!

I cannot see how they cannot miss the signs. I can understand when someone does not read English, because I live in Canada and we are supposed to be into multiculturalism, but when everyone should understand English and the signs being clear enough, they should be able to read them. I suppose the signs are placed where anyone can see them, and large enough so you do not need glasses. I guess that some people are a bit too lazy to look in front of their eyes.

Okay I have to admit, I have been that customer that asks the obviously stupid question because I didn't see the sign. Not that I am trying to be lazy or anything, just when I have my kids with me it is so easy to get distracted and not be able to find anything that is right in front of me =) I remember when I was working I would get so annoyed with the same type os stupid peole though, and now I seem to be that person sometimes. When people point out the sign to me I just apologize (and feel like an idiot) =)

I think that when there is someone readily standing around people are more likely to ask questions. I have noticed that at my work too. If I am out on the floor feet away from them they ask tons of questions but if I am behind the counter they are more hesitant. I hope things get better for you. : ) Or already have perhaps. Haha. : )

I know what you mean. I don't really understand why people nowadays doesn't take time to read signs, that's there for them to use. I don't want to sound mean but we all need to be responsible enough to find out something for ourselves first before we go asking around. Of course there are exceptions like when you're in a hurry or like what was mentioned, some people are distracted because they're with their kids or maybe they have disability or something. I can say that I'm one of the people who take time to read all the signs first before asking someone. I only ask if I really can't find what I'm looking for.

Might be that they cant read English how many of these people are of a different race? I for one look and look till I know I have looked every where then I ask maybe if not I just dont buy if I dont find what I want where it really should be in the store . and you havent said what the signs say or what the question s are.

Yes, people are getting lazier and lazier. There some people who just feels more comfortable asking a question. They probably think also that's why you are there to that's why they asked. I know it can become irritating, but do not let them get to you.

Oh this is very funny my friend.I knoe exactly where you are coming from. People nowadays just can't be bothered and they assume that because you are working and getting paid that you even have to change their nappies for them..as the saying goes. I do understand your venting as it used to happen to me very often when I worked in a Health food store for a few years so I can share your frustration.
