It is very dark.I had to buy some solar lights because im scared to go outside at night because of all the animals prowling around.lol.I dont feel to come face to face with a nice kitty,oh i mean skunk.lol.I have one in the hallway for that same reason and in the kitchen too.We only have a one story house so the 2 lights kind of make a path to follow.:)

I leave a night light in my son's room, so I can check on him from the door, and not actually have to walk over to his bed. My son is such a light sleeper that if I actually walk into his room to check on him, 9 times out of 10 he would wake up. So I just barely open up his bedroom door and make sure he is still in bed and that I can see him breathing or hear him snore. lol
I think my son might be afraid of the dark, too. Recently he was up playing in the middle of the night (That's a night occurrence for him!), and pulled the night light out. He started screaming then, so I went in to see what was wrong. The night light wasn't hot or anything, I think he was just afraid because he was suddenly in the dark. We moved the night light to a plug he can't get to, and things have been since then.

The fish tank is a good idea.We have one in our bedroom that we use for us.At least my boyfriend is not knocking himself out on something when he gets up at 3:30 am to go to work.lol.Thats when our daughter slowly sneaks in and gets in bed with mommy and her cold feet too!:)

Hi peanutjar!
My daughter is 15 months so we do have a night light for her. Before my hubby and I go to bed we check on her one last time, and turn off the night light.

We always do need a night light on, even though the kids are now nearing their teens, but its not that they are sczared any longer, its just that, its become a habit now and it eases them out to move around at night, in case they get up at night to go to the toilet or for drinking water.
When they were small, we used to keep the night light on, and it was a larger one at that time, so that whenever they cried or needed either one of us, we were quick to reach them, and they did not need to fear the dark either, but as they grew older the light started getting dimmer and now its a mere symbol left, though enough to guide you around the darkness for other things. And the kids are also very used to the night light now, and incase its not on, they are still alright though they would put on their own oom light and that would disturb the other person in the room.
I think its always more comfortable to have a night light, in the main hall way, so that it serves all purposes too.

Hi there! We have one in the hallway too.My boyfriend was always bumping in to the plant stand(its marble)and almosr knocking it over plus knocking hid feet or knees on it.Its better now, atleast he can see and if our daughter wakes up shes not in a panic mode from being in the dark.lol:)

They bother my eyes too.I dont know how come but i think its because im light sensitive. My boyfriend laughs at me and says"your sleeping! How can the light bother you?Blah, blah".Its hard to explain, but it does.I do put one on in the hallway, incase my daughter wakes up and finds herself in the dark. Not a happy camper!!lol.:)
