Monitor Speakers [on a budget] - need tips!

I'm buying a pair of active monitor speakers.
My budget is max £150 / 265$USD
and I'm planning to get something second hand.
I don't want to buy an additional subwoofer, so I was thinking that if I could get speakers with a frequency response down to around 50Hz I should be fine.
I'm mostly producing Metal, but also some electronic and symphonic music.
Got any hints or tips?
