Do you think it's possible to make up for years of bad habits?

Some of my worst habits involve food choices that I've been making for the past five years or so. And, I'm convinced that no matter what I've eaten in the past, I can really change and it will make a difference. Everyday, no matter what I end up eating, I tell myself that it's not too late to change and start eating healthier. And, I have to believe it's true. I can't just give up because I slip up on occasion. So, it makes me wonder. Is there really hope for everyone who has bad habits? If a person has been smoking for twenty years, is it too late to quit? And if they did, would it help their health to be better? Or, would it just be too late? If a person is always angry, could that person seek counseling and find more joy in their life? Or, are they doomed to be miserable forever? What do you think? Do you think that we are truly creatures of habit and ruled by our habits? Or, can we choose which habits to be ruled by and live a more prosperous life on a whim? And, is it ever too late to change your habits?

I do think that we can all change our bad habits- with a little work and willpower. You can make any change in your life- just figure out what you want to change and work on it. I think you can be a unhealthy eater and eat at the wrong times for most of your life- and then finally have enough- and with help, willpower and the knowledge of how to change- you can change your eating habits. Will it help?? Sure it will- I believe you can also stop smoking- or stop being so pessimistic- you just want to “want to stop or change” and don’t give up at the first stumble. Sure it is hard—but in the long run it will be worth it.

There are some bad habits that are going to have effects that stick with you forever, even after you give them up. But I don't think that means you can't give them up and improve your life in some way. Yeah, if you smoke for 20 years, it is going to be harder for you to give it up. You might have already ruined your health, but there are still some benefits to give up smoking. It makes things better for you and for the rest of your family. I think the longer we indulge in a habit, the harder it will be to break. But that doesn't mean that we can't change. We just have to really want to.

I don't think it's ever too late to change any sort of bad habits you have. Granted, some habits are more dangerous and by the time you quit, it could essentially, have already caused a lot of problems with your health, but quitting rather than continuing the already destructive behavior really does help. You're proving that you're not going to let this bad habit run your life, and you're not going to allow it to destroy the quality of life you have left. It's never too late.

I don't think its ever too late to change years of bad habits. I know lots of people that have given up smoking after 20 years and sorts. It's up to the person in the end and how badly he or she wants to make that change. It isn't always easy but I have always believed that "where there's a will, there's a way!"
