Have you ever seen a birthing video that scared you out of having children?

Have you ever seen a birthing video that scared you into thinking you shouldn't have children? Did the video make you feel like the entire delivery process would be too painful to bear? In a way it did for me.
Years and years ago, I had the unfortunate accident to see a birthing video on the Learning Channel. It did not shed the most positive light on the entire pregnancy and birthing experience. And, it made the entire process of child birth seem to be one of the most painful experiences in the world. There was so much screaming. I had never seen anyone in pain. I guess the person in the video had chosen not to use an epidural. Of course, at the time I was watching the video, I didn't even know those were available for a more pain-free (relatively speaking) child birth.
So, for awhile, before my daughter was born, I was kind of scared of the entire birthing and delivery process. I went through several years of wanting a child, but being afraid that I could not withstand all the pain. In the end it was a moot point and I had a C-section with very little pain. Someone should warn you that every delivery is different. Mine was at least. There was no horrible screaming. It was very tranquil, actually. And, within days of getting out of the hospital, I was ready to have another baby.

Hello beautyqueen,
I tried to avoid all kind of birthing videos. Whenever I saw one being shown on TV, I will just left. In fact, I was so scared to watch it. I have one and only perception about giving birth - it will be very painful! I will close my eyes and ears whenever people start to tell me about the story of giving birth or whatsoever. I just don't want to listen! When I got pregnant, I was happy throughout the pregnancy but every single hour reminds me of the birthing scenario. I told my husband once that I wanted to opt for C-section. He insisted that I deliver my baby through normal birth as I would treasure the experience for the rest of my life and assure me that I will never regret the choice (seems like he knows better than me!) In fact, he is right. I do want to have another baby now!

when I found out I was pregnant I was 22 and working. As I was a personal carer I worked in cru and they all had pay tv, as I was doing something (all the clients had left for the day and I was doing the cleaning) I watched a bit of tv and there it was a program about birth and all that and how it was done ages ago and it was very graphic my heart stoped (not that I didnt know what I got my self into) but the whole thing just hit home I cried like a baby. Now that I know I would do it 10 times over and its worth every bid of pain.

the discovery channel runs a show about labor but i can't remember what it was called. it was pretty graphic to watch. tlc has a baby story which isn't quite as bad. i was the same way though. i saw those shows and i was so scared i would be in terrible pain. even the c-sections looked painful the way they just stretched and ripped the baby out fast.
When anyone asks me about my labor i always stress that every labor is different. mine really wasn't all that bad. and i tell them that even though it can be painful, as soon as that baby is out you forget all about it. and you even are crazy enough to want to put yourself in all that pain again!

No I haven't but my sister in law saw what I had to go through and it scared her from having any kids. A few years later she is 3 months pregnant and she's hoping that the birth of her child will be so much better. She also insists that she is going to take an epidural as I did it naturally and the pain she saw me in, put her off altogether LOL
We actually filmed my birth because my husband could not be there so I had my best friend film it. Five minutes into the video he had to turn it off as he almost fainted. The sight of blood makes him feel icky!
