Can you stand it when a complete stranger just keeps staring at you?

Oh no! I can't! For me, staring at a person is a very rude thing to do. Well, unless that person was starstruck with love or something!LOL But when I do get to experience something like that, either I try to endure it for a few minutes. Then, if that person still keeps staring, I'll then stare back. If that still doesn't work, I'll then ask that person why am I being stared at? Fortunately, I usually have to do the second one, when I need to stare back too, so to let them know that I'm starting to get uncomfortable with what they are doing. Stealing brief glimpses is ok but to stare at a long time, is not right at all.

Oh I don't even like it when someone I know is staring at me. It's just a real bother to have someone staring at you. Like what am I doing? why are you staring! Stop it! I don't usually inquire about it. I usually just ignore it and eventually walk away.

You're right about that. It bothers me, too. As if there's something wrong with me that's why I'm being stared at.

I sure understand why your son feels like that. I get paranoid sometimes too. As if there something on my face that shouldn't be there at all!

I am legally blind, so I really don't see what others are doing, or whether or not they are looking at me. I can see well enough to read, write, and get where I'm going using public transportation, but I really can't pick up on body language. This makes people very easy to ignore, in public situations.

Sometimes, it's hard to just plainly ignore those people who stare so long that it makes me either uncomfortable or irritable. When I'm not in a really good mood, sometimes I stare back until they get the point.

I don't like someone to just stare at me either. It bothers me. I just want to say instead of starring at me then take a picture because it will last longer. LOL When people do that to me I just look back at them. And I always get that feeling when someone is starring at me. You know what I'm talking about? It's like I can just feel them starring and when I look they are and I don't like it.

I am not really a paranoid type of person. But if someone keeps on staring at me, I would rather go to other places. Away from that person. I don't like the idea of being stared as if I have some dirt somewhere on my face.

Wise move on your part. Better to get yourself away from that rude person or you might say something else. I was at one point so irritated at the person staring at me, that I couldn't stop myself from asking her why she was looking at me that way. She was embarassed and walked away.

I always go straight to the moron and ask him Do I know you? Or What are you looking at .Do you want to say something to me? That settles everything. Many a times I find this starers running away grinning sheepishly with the tail in between their legs.

Yes Tina.It is worse than verbal abusing.I always consider it as rude violation of our privacy. And staring is one thing that will get the first place in bad manners.

Ha! You showed them Bala. It can be royally annoying to be rudely stared at. It makes us very uncomfortable and then we tend to feel paranoid, that maybe there's something wrong with the way we look, that's why they keep staring.

You're so right, bala. It's a very and irritating bad manner of a person who keeps staring. Sometimes you just want to pluck their eyes out.

I believe there must always be a reason why someone is staring at a person. I am rather scared to be stared at a long time by any stranger. I would always think that the stranger might have some malicious motives behind him. If I were alone I will quickly move away without any delay. Sometimes if a stranger is staring at me and I find that he is involved in deep thinking so I can reason out that he actually happens to stare at a particular direction only. In this circumstance I will rather ignore him.

I'll do the same thing you'd do. Get far away from a stranger who's staring intently at me. Especially when there's no other people nearby. Better be safe than sorry. That staring at a person while thinking of something happened to me before. But I happened to be staring straight through my sister. And she thought I looked funny, looking at her that way. Then, I explained to her that I was only thinking of something, and I wasn't really looking at her. I wasn't even aware I was doing it.

Oh no, a thousand times no. I could be annoyed, coyed, paranoid, or even be intimidated when a stranger stares at me. I hate being stared. As much as possible I want to be unnoticed. That is why I love staying at home most of the time. It's been really hard for me for the last 10 years of my life as I moved a lot. The longest time I stayed in one place was four years and that was in Bangkok. Even in Thailand I moved about four times. And because of this I don't get that feeling of "This is my territory!" I am always a stranger in one place that is why when someone stares at me I would want to disappear.

This is something that i hate and just cannot stand! It makes me really nervous. I usually wait a few minutes and if they are still staring i say something to them. Once i was starting to get really freaked out and then realized it was someone i hadnt seen for a long time. Has that ever happened to you? I agree with you about staring. I was always taught it was rude to stare. And i still think it is.

Yes, actually it did. I wasn't freaked out because it was a woman who kept on staring at me. I was already thinking of what words to say to her when she finally approached me. As it turned out, she was a former classmate in grade school. I have a bad memory when it comes to names and faces sometimes.LOL

It depends on the type of stare. People with strange 'deer in the headlight' stares would make me uncomfortable. Other types of stares...not so much. I worked in the media producing and hosting talk shows people recognized me and often stared. David and I do public speaking and lead groups and people have their eyes focused on us while we are doing that..so I think both of us have become quite immune to people staring...unless as I said in my lead...there is a weird vibe attached to the stare...that I pay attention to. Ahh... my memories of a public speaking experience when I was in college still never cease to make me laugh. I was so nervous with all the people staring at me that I didn't notice I was talking so fast that my words were incoherent. My friend tried to walk as gracefully as she could towards me and whispered that I was talking as fast as the train! As soon as I heard that, I slowed down! Took a deep breath and tried to speak normally. lol! I would feel uncomfortable too if I'm being stared at by a person who seems to forget to blink! And I had my share of stares from men who were undressing me with their eyes. Very creepy experience.

Hi laurika. I feel the same way. As if they are staring because I have dirt on my face, or other reasons that certainly attracts attention.
