Chewy Hanger Steak

I just cooked a hanger steak for the first time. I seared it in a pan and then chucked it in the oven at 420 degrees untill the inside temp hit 150. WOW IT WAS CHEWY. Let me know your hanger steak secrets. Should i have beat the meat first or marinated it? I just hit it with some salt and pepper and chucked it in the cast iron pan. Thanks for any responses. My girlfriend was very unimpressed and now i need to make up for it! :)
