What are you allergic to?

Food, medicine, animals, whatever. What are you allergic to? I wonder if anyone has an unusual answer. As for me, I'm allergic to pollen, but I think a lot of people are.

Well I am allergic to soap of any kind so how is that? I feel like an elementary joke, "you are so nasty you are allergic to soap" LOL Every time I take a shower, no matter what soap I use, I am covered in hives for at least an hour. Not just any hives, I mean eye watering itchy things that just won't stop no matter how much scratching I do. I have literally when I was younger scratched myself until I bled trying to get it to stop. Now I just endure and keep my mind off it until it's over.

So for you it's painful to get clean. It's amazing they haven't invented something for people allergic to soap. I'm sure it's rare, but still, they can grow an ear on a mouse for goodness sake! Are you allergic to laundry soap too?
12 Sep 07
No laundry soap oddly enough does not have an effect on me at all. I forget to tell you about my youngest, she is allergic to cold air and water, it breaks her out in hives as well. I am not talking server cold either, anything below 80 degrees will do it. She went swimming too early a few times this summer before the water could get good a warm. Bless her heart she looked like the elephant man. She had hives on top of hives. It's called Cold Urticaria. Here is a link that tells you about it if you would like to learn more... http://dermatology.about.com/cs/hives/a/coldurt.htm Poor thing is 8 and has had it her whole life. So far it has become worse, so now the Doctors think she may have it for life. The worse is all the meds for it can harm her cause they conflict with her asthma. So like mommy, she just has to let it run it's course. :o(

So she has a rare kind of case then. Because she has it so young and not in the late teens and early twenties. I had never heard of that before. Poor girl, she's got it hard.

I have a few allergies but nothing that causes me a huge problem. My skin is a bit sensitive to certain laundry soaps with a lot of perfume in them so I stick to the ones with little or no perfume. In the spring and fall I get a little sensitive to some pollens and molds. Nothing too bad, I just get a little bit sneezy but it doesn't get really bad. Probably the worst allergies I have are to certain medications. I had to get a tetanus shot after falling on a rusty nail when I was about 12 yrs old. The next day I had a fever of 104 and couldn't walk without help. A couple of years ago the doctor gave me Lipitor for my high cholestrol. I took it for 3 days. The first day it made me sleepy, second day I was sleepy and felt weak, by the third day I felt like the earth's gravity had tripled. I could barely move. To say the least that was the last day I took that stuff! That's about it for allergies.

My mom had the same reaction to Lipitor. She was like, I'd rather take the risk of heart disease than feel so bad on this.

That's great! My mom's is mostly hereditary, but she tries to watch what she eats as well. She doesn't like to though. She loves desserts.

The doctor put me on Zetia instead since most of my problem at the time wasn't heredity but bad eating habits. As soon as I changed my bad habits my cholestrol dropped 60 points in 3 months. The only time I take the Zetia is when I know I'm going to be eating ice cream or steak or something equally fatty. So far so good!

Hi AmbiePam, Every spring I get hayfever (allergies to grass, pollen, etc) I am also allergic to latex, dust, and cats! I would say that the allergy that bugs me the most is being allergic to cats. My hubby loves cats but we can't get one otherwise I get the itchy watery eyes, hives, sneezes, runny nose, etc.

Oh, that's disappointing. It's 2007, I would think someone would have come up with a complete solution for that.

Well, I didnt think I was allergic to anything, but I had spent the weekend out of town with a friend, and on that Sunday I had developed a tooth ache shortly before I left and my friend gave me some Allieve to take. It was pretty late when I got home and I had to go to work in the morning so I just went straight to bed, I only lived about an hour away from her. When I woke up in the morning and my eyes seemed really puffy, and my hands felt a bit more swollen than normal, and my throat felt tight. I went on to work and when I walked in the door my supervisor was like are you ok? lol Im thinking yea, so I ask her what does she mean? Shes like your eyes are really puffy. I said yea I dont know, maybe I didnt get much sleep last night. I was working at a Data Entry company at the time and I sat down at my desk to work. I couldnt hardly type my hands began to swell so badly. I ended up going to the emergency room and they they had to cut the rings off my fingers because they were starting to feel as if they were cutting into my skin. The Dr told me that he sees a lot of this, it was an allergic reaction to the Alleive that I took. It was my bday that day too, and I spent most of it in the ER, we have a rather slow one, and then the rest of the day in bed! I mean I wanted the day off work but goodness! Not in this manner....so needless to say I cant take Allieve, nor can I have any Demerol. Other than that, I have not came across anything else that causes an allergic reaction. Thank goodness!! xx

I'm allergic to the early spring sun. No kidding. As soon as spring approaches, I need to be really careful of not being under direct sunlight. If I do, I come out in a rash. It's weird, because then by October and through the rest of spring and summer I'm fine and can even sunbathe (although I need to be extremely careful when I do because of my sensitive skin). The doctor told me that it's rare, and probably pollen is also one of the reasons of my allergy, but it's not a big problem anyway.

Bananas, well i can eat them once in awhile, but if i eat more than like one, then it makes my tongue burn. also penicillin. now im not highly allergic to it, but ive got a reaction to it, so i prefer not to take it. but if i were dying and needed it, by all means, give it to me!

OK, but how will I know you're REALLY dying, and not faking it to get Clay Walker's attention as he walks by? By the way, I like your avatar.

I have allergies and Asthma, so I think it would be easier for me to say what I am not allergic to. As of this point right now, I am not allergic to myself, but tomorrow can prove to be a different story. Let's see, there is cheap perfume, cleaning fluids, dust, cold air, cats, at least twenty five different medications, strong smelling flowers and body oder. Just to name a few.

I'm one of the lucky few who isn't allergic to anything, at least not that I know of. My husband on the other hand is allergic to so many things it's hard to keep count. The biggest problem allergy he has is to long hair cats, which is a problem because we have one.

I don't have allergies as much as environmental sensitivites - chemical smells, some really sweet smells like lavender and others, or just really strong smells are a trigger for my migraines. I have a deviated septum so I'm a little sensitive to dust and such, not too bad though. I just always have a sinus headache going on. I'm also allergic to mean or narrow minded people, rather than a rash, nausea or a headache as a reaction, I want to shake them and make them realize that they and their world are not the only one out here.

I'm allergice to pollen, dust, and some cats, dogs, and trees. My weird allergies are walnut and blueberries. Walnuts I cannot stand but I love blueberries so that makes me totally sad.

I hope you never eat anything that has those two ingredients mixed in where you don't know it's in the food. That's happened to my dad. He didn't know shrimp had been mixed into the dip at a restaurant, and he ended up in the ER.

Thanks! Fortunately I'm not deathly allergic to either of them. So if I did eat them I'd know it because I'd feel like crud but it wouldn't send me to the ER or anything.

It sounds like you are susceptible to heat rash or heat stroke. I have to be careful in the heat because I get very lethargic and once I fainted, but I don't think I have experienced anything as badly as you have.

I'm allergic to anything that can tickle the nose, list dust, mold, mildew, animal dander and many perfumes. I am also allergic to the iodine they use in many medical tests. Thank God I have not been allergic to any medicines or food that I know of.

I have two very unusual allergies. I'm allergic to bottlebrush tree pollen and (get this) rat hair. My brother had two lab rats as pets as a kid and I developed an allergy to them. The bottlebrush pollen is such a bad allergy that I have to take asthma pills every morning during the season. You wondered...now you can quit wondering. Unusual allergies are out there!

I'm not really allergic to anything specific, but I do suffer from the typical seasonal allergies, like pollen in the air. My husband is super allergic to bees, and I'm always scared he's going to get stung when he's working outside. He usually ends up in the hospital when he gets stung.
