It is highly recommended that you go with the flow rather than fighting it. It will make your life a lot easier. Visiting a foreign country is one thing... as you are only there for a short period of time. Immigrating to a foreign country is another. Adapting to the new culture is a must if you are going to succeed. This is what we call "integration". Whether you are visiting or immigrating... you are a guest in that country... and it is your duty to respect their culture and not impose your culture in their life style.

Now, I agree 100% with your opinion :-) I like your words... "it is your duty to respect their culture and not impose your culture in their life style". Otherwise, why should we visit there if we don't respect their culture?

I folllow the phrase. But at the same time I dont do anything that can harm my country's/place's image to them. In Bangladesh we dont usually give is fraction amount when we buy a good. Suppose if 100gm nuts cost here some 8.4 taka but we pay 8 taka for it and neither the seller nor the buyer minds for it. But When i went to india for the 1st time I noticed that they take fraction amount when you buy a good. So Obviously I have given it whenever I bought any goods. Similary If anyone dont folllow the norms of a country he/she is visiting, he/she may fall in problem. As a example about gestures, The hand gesture to say "come here" in USA and some other english speaking country mean just opposite in italy i.e. "good Bye". Similarly the gesture to show "ok" in usa and some other country mean exactly for what they(usa) show the middle finger in India and some other country. I some provinces of Thailand and Vietnam, people wave their head up-down if they disagree with something what most of the people of the world do to show to giv a positive signal. So if anyone dont follow the norms and manner of a country s/he is visiting, s/he may fall in problem. In Ireland the waiter of a restaurant will certainly feel insulted if u offer him a tips after your meal. And also dont say "buddy" to anyone in Ireland because that means something "bloody" to them.

It is very great examples. I love it. Thanks for sharing it. By the way, I don't know if we should not offer the waiter a tip after our meal in Ireland. I also like your example about "buddy". I'll keep in mind about it.

thank you for your comment. No, You shouldnt offer the waiter a tip after your meal in ireland. But it is ok if you offer tips to other people like bell boy or porter or house keeper.

Yes, I follow it. For it is the sanest thing to do when in a foreign land. If need be, you should understand and speak their language.
