I don't even know how good an electric blanket is, but I have heard some people say they are the best. I am considering buying one, so I thought I would try and get some input from you wise people. What has your experience been if you use them? I need something that will allow me to have my room kind of cool, but keep me warm. What kind of care goes into keeping them nice? Do you have them drycleaned? Thanks for any advice.

I would not want to have an electric blanket personally, I just don't trust them very much. I do, however, have a lovely hot water bottle in a purple furry cover which is perfect in the cold weather.

Well, recycled, I know that I will be able to make a much more informed decision now that I have opinions from all of you nice people. I do own a nice hot water bottle and a heating pad. So maybe I will just stick with them.

hello my dear friend wise..I myself am very hot blooded..so i dont use them..but i did when i was younger.,and it was great! i was never cold..and u can adjust the heat so u dont roast your bum off lol..but my mom had a bad experience when she was in her young teens..it caught fire..and she had a bad time getting out..thank goodness she wasnt badly burned..but that always sat in the back of my mind..but i think they make them better than they used to in the 60;s..i dont think i wil ever buy my son one..because of my fear of that..,thats just me..but i know many ..many people that use them and love them..and now they make them so they dont need dry cleaned anymore..so thats a huge bonus as well...have a great day! I love my electric blanket, its one of the best things that I have brought...Its is waterproof, so I can launder it myself in the washing machine and it is lambswool, so it is like sleeping on a cloud..Its gorgeous and heaven to sleep on..Get one , you will not regret it..

I love electric blankets... but worry about their safety.

I have a mattress warmer on my bed. My hubby bought it for me. The only drawback is that it doesn't have dual controls. I have to find one that will allow me to turn my side up and his down. We only have it on to warm the bed so we don't freeze when we crawl under the covers. Once in bed we turn it off and rely on our body heat and the down comforter.

I have a heated water bed but I have also used electric blankets.
In winter, my skin becomes very dry and flaky and I've been told it's because of the use of electric blankets. They are lovely and snuggly warm tho' on cold winter nights. Recommendations for care and cleaning should come with the product.

I would love to help here honey but I haven't used an electric blanket in years! I did used to like them , espescially the ones that you lie on rather than the ones that go on top! Having said that I now use heated wheatgerm bags that you heat in the microwave if I need them as I tend to overheat quite easily! Good luck and I hope you get the info you need! xxx

I live in a tropical climate where we do not need to use electric blankets. Even if we turn the aircon on to sleep, it is sufficient to cover ourselves with normal blankets.
But I've used electric blankets a number of times during my travels to cooler countries. Usually these are in Bed & Breakfast places or homesteads. I find such blankets to be wonderfully warm and cosy when I tuck under them to sleep, especially when the environmental temperatures are quite cold. It feels really good, provided the temperature is set right and not too hot. I'm not sure about the safety factor though because I use these up to a few nights' stretch only, but I guess with any electrical appliance, there is some element of risk where shortcircuits and fires are concerned.
