Liquid or pencil eye liner?

Years ago when I was a teenager and began to experiment with eye makeup, I used to use an eyeliner that came in a cake like form and I'd have to wet the liner brush and apply it as a liquid. Well, maybelline did away with that wonderful application that I had perfected so well. Now years and years later.....I have tried to get used to liner pens, etc. ... no luck. I started to use the soft liner pencils, they are ok, but not the same effect. The sleek, fine line of the liquid is back and popular. Do more of you prefer the pencil eye liner or a liquid of some sort. Please name brands if you want, I am in the mood to try some new makeup, but want to get some great feedback first.

Oh my, I can see how that could be a problem too. I have gotten the liquid sometimes too far in the corner and had it get into my eye so I can relate somewhat to what you are talking about. Thanks for sharing with me.

We're about the same age applsofgld, so I know the exact cake liner you're talking about. It was perfect because it gave us the control of how thin or thick we wanted it. Liquid liners were just never the same as the cake and pencil liners are just about useless to me. I have very sensitive skin and have always been unhappy with store brand cosmetics. So after a lot of research in cosmetic chemistry I started making all my own cosmetics a few years ago. One of the first things I taught myself how to make was CAKE EYELINER! I absolutely love it and it's just as good if not better than the original. The bad thing is there's a little law about packaging cosmetics that prevents me from being able to sell mine on the open market. So I'm limited to making stuff for my family and friends.

Oh my, how I wish you could sell yours. Is it difficult to make? What you said fits me like a glove. The cake eyeliner was perfect for me b/c I could control how thin or thick the line was. And I could apply it better, with a steady hand. But I just have such a time now with the liquid pens, etc. I have tried the gel one from Avon and it is not a good product at all,not for me anyway. The pencils just don't give me a sleek enough effect either. Thanks for sharing with me. Let me know if you are ever able to sell yours.

Thanks for the BR! No it's not hard at all to make. I wish I could sell it too! Its funny, I can make all the cosmetics I want to make, it's the packaging that's the problem. They demand certain restrictions and unfortunately my kitchen table doesn't meet the standards of the law. I'm kind of in a catch-22. I can't make money until I meet the requirements and I can't meet the requirements until I make enough money. Dang! If I can ever find a way around it, I'll let you know!

I use only the eye-liner pencils- I don’t like the look of the liquid- I can’t seem to get used to it, and it makes my eyes look funny when I’m done. I bet it probably stays on longer. That is my problem I’ll put it on with the pencil, and then an hour later it’s gone- disappears- I keep saying that I’ll go somewhere for them to show me how to apply make-up to stay and the right kind for my skin tone. But I haven’t made it yet.

I use the liquid eyeliner from Maybelline. I like it very much because it's very practical. I don't use pencil eyeliner.

I always use pencil eyeliner. I have played around with liquid eyeliner, but I never can get it right, so I don't bother. I also like gel eyeliners like stila smudgepots or mac gel liners. you have to use these with a fine brush, and they go on beautifully.

I haven't tried a gel liner, that sounds interesting to me though. So you find it easier to use than the liquid pen type? Thank you so much for sharing this with me.

I don't use eyeliner at all, I take my mascara allll the way down to the root and wiggle it and it kind of gives the same effect. And I also use one of those eye shadow pencils in like silver I use it like a eyeliner but it goes on with a wider line.

I like the pencil form better than the liquid, because it seems that the liquid goes on too heavy. I am very fair skinned with light hair, and all that heaviness washes me out! I have to be very careful. I think I have Maybelline Cool Effects. One is gray-blue colored, the other is gold-copper colored.

I wish I could work with a liquid liner, but I just cannot do it. Maybe my hands are not steady enough. It is a pencil for me!

Back those many ions ago when I would wear makeup (teen heh) I would use the penciled eyeliner, as I had more control with it.

Hey. I only wear eyeliner when Ive got somewhere to go, like to a function or an occassion and I only prefer to use pencil, I think liquid stings, maybe my eye area is too sensitive...

I prefer pencil eyeliner. :[ It's easier to wash off and maneuver. My hands aren't exactly steady enough to control liquid eyeliner. Haha. I tried using it once and I could NOT get straight across. I always have line breaks or it's just like a zigzag line. Haha. I have to say that I'm glad that I never got liquid eyeliner in my eye though. I've heard that it hurts a lot. :[ (Plus, it turns your eye black. Blegh!)

Way back 2003, I saw a girl with nice eyes. She got a nice eyeliner and it s so fine. I look for the eyeliner that shes using. From that time, I like using liquid eyeliner than the pencil eyeliner. Coz its so easy to use you dont need to sharpen it, just shake it then apply!

Hello. I have never tried a liquid eyeliner. I have been using a pencil eyeliner eversince because it is easier I think, or it takes practice to be able to use it well. I think liquid eyeliner is harder to apply.

liquid or pencil, make sure it is water proof / smudge free, as it will tend to run down your eyes

Since I wear contact lens, so I used to use the liner pencils so that there would not be any bits formed from the liquid would got into my eyes. To tell you the true, I never use the liquid one. But years ago, I put the tattoo on my eye liners that I don't have to use anymore liner pencils either. In your case, if you don't have to wear lens, you can try both till you find the one you like.

i use any type or form of eyeliners... im constantly experimenting with it.. i like the thin line mostly but sometimes i will go for a thicker line it all depends i like to try different designs as well... i use anything from maybelline to cover girl to avon... i have tried all of them and alot of them are great.. sometimes the cheap ones make for the better liner as well
