Hi! Pranayama is an integral part of YOGA, hence has spiritual overtone attached to it.Being an integral part of HINDUISM,its not surprising that it is being abhored by catholic church. Myself being an Atheist never really had any attraction to Pranayama-BUT MY DOG really made me take it seriously-not for its spiritual benefits, but the PHYSICAL ONES!my dog whenever he is tired or let down, lets out the air from his nose forcibly as in a jet-he does it for a number of times and then relaxes. After reading a book on Yoga i realised it is similar to MUKTA DHOUTI,a relaxation techinique in PRANAYAMA. I have tried this following PRANAYAMAs for 7 days and u wont believe my B.P. has come down from 140/100 to 120/80-this has been checked by my Doctor wife: *BASRIKA PRANAYAMA:u have to breathe in as deeply as possible to fill up ur Lungs and exhale as quickly as possible-try to maintain a speed upto 120 per minute. *ANULOM VINOLOM PRANAYAM:close the right nosrtil by thumb and inhale deeply thru left nostril, close the left nostril by middle finger & exhale thru the right. Then repeat by first breathing in thru right nostril and exhaling thru left. KAPALBHATI PRANAYAMA:continously and deeply EXHALE the air out thru ur lungs while tucking in your abdomen.try to achieve 120 per minute. WHAT EXPLANATION MY WIFE HAS GIVEN WITH REGARDS TO HYPERTENSION is that these pranayama's have greatly increased my blood circulation leading to tremendous Cardiac benefits which include reduction of BP. cheers!!!

I do the yoga breathing by pushing my stomach out when I inhale and pulling it in when I exhale, to empty my lungs... it is the only thing that helps me get to sleep at night. And I sleep better because I've taken in more oxygen.
