My son invited me to have lunch with him at school today and I had so much fun. It's nice to know that his school allows parents to join their kids at lunch time if they want to. I made his lunch today and I ordered from the cafeteria. As soon as I sat down with my order (pizza and spaghetti bolognaise, fat free milk and a small salad) he wanted to swap. His lunch consisted of bologne and light mayo sandwiches, peaches, an apple, 2 x apple juices and a small pkt of goldfish biscuits. Humph, I was looking foward to eating the pizza too LOL I got to meet six of his classmates and they where cool to talk to. They shared with me what they were having for lunch, what they did today in class and what they were going to do in the afternoon. I felt like a substitute teacher of some sorts. It was so much fun sitting their listening and joining in their conversation. While I was doing that, my son and his friend Raoul were busy laughing and making jokes. I was happy to see him happy and enjoying himself. I hope I get invited back to lunch again sometime soon!

Oh how sweet, the little boy is growing up and making friends at school. That is just the cutest thing in the world. Parents always wonder if their children are going to fit in, be accepted, and get along well with others. It is nice to know that he is adjusting well. Next time just make sure you guys both have the same thing for lunch. Mommie's food always looks way better, even if it did come from the cafeteria, LOL.

haha I actually asked him if he wanted to order from the cafeteria today and he said no because most of his friends take their lunches in and he wanted to do the same. So all this week I have been making him lunch. It just so happens that on that day they were having one of his favorites and he wanted it too. I should of known that was going to happen LOL He is adjusting very well and making lots of new friends and having fun too. Its nice to know that he is enjoying himself and actually seeing it makes me feel more at ease. I ask him everyday how his day is and he keeps telling me he can't remember. During the afternoon he will tell me bits and peices but i think its because he is so exhausted from having so much fun that he can't be bothered telling me about his day. So spending lunch with him yesterday was great!

Maybe if you ask him more specific questions like what was the best thing he did today. Or, how are his friends doing? What did he play at recess? I remember that in some grades in was not cool to eat in the cafeteria and some grades it was. It can be hard to keep up with the changing trends. I use to stay in the loop when I lived with my sister and her six children, but I have no need to keep up now.

Wow, that could have been fun! How I wish my son's school would do that also. But I doubt if they would, for they don't even want us to accompany our kids to their classrooms even if their stuff are too heavy for them to carry. We're only allowed to send them outside the school gates.

Really, even if he had stationary items or things to bring to school? I am glad that our school allows lots of parent involvement and they don't mind if we come for lunch and or visit his class (as long as we sign in when we visit). They also want us to volunteer some time as classroom helper too which I am looking forward to doing when its my turn. Thanks for responding g_aileen!

I have not heard about this possibility in schools. But I do not think I would use out this possibility. But it is very interesting.

Yes it sure it. I was surprised that they allowed us to lunch with our children. It was a nice experience though and I enjoyed meeting some of his class friends. They have lots of parent interaction and involvement at his school, which I really like. They even ask for volunteers to come and help in the classroom with certain activities, which i have also volunteered for. It's a great school I think anyways. Thanks for responding!

I had read in the newsletters we receive that parents are allowed to have lunch with their children. I had asked him about that awhile ago and he said that he didn't want me to have lunch with him. So I was quiet surprised when he asked me the day before if I wanted to. I think there may have been a few parents eating their with their kids the day he asked me and probably wanted to do the same. I had so much fun meeting and talking with his friends. Thanks for responding fashionchina!

That's awesome that you got to eat lunch with him! It must have been nice to be able to share his day with him and meet his friends. He even ate your lunch.:P I think it's important for schools to allow parents to come in and spend time with their child. Interaction is important as much as it is special. Your son probably really appreciated what a cool mom he had too. It was really wonderful of you to take the time to spend lunch with him because so many parents don't do that. Go maddysmommy!:)

Thank you Flight for your comments. That is one good thing about the school he is at, is that there is a lot of parent involvement and being able to have lunch with my 5 year old was really nice and I felt quite special too. He also felt special and not embarrased at all to have his mommy there. I hope I get more invites along the way. Have a lovely weekend!

it was so nice hearing stories like that, as you know my daughter is just about to turn two years old, and i want to spend much much time with her, because i know, when she started schooling, and have friends mommy will not be the center of her world anymore, i hope her future school will be like your son where parents get invited for lunch... have a nice day!

Hi sharon, i hope all is well with you. It is nice being able to pop by his school and have lunch. I had not realised that it was ok to do that until he asked me the day before if I wanted to come for lunch. Wait till he gets to middle school or even high school, i don't think that will be happening at all. Have a nice weekend my friend.

Yes. It is very interesting to hear that parents are allowed to have their lunch with their kids. When i was a small child, my grand mother brought me the lunch to my school. She had the habit of chatting with the parents of other children there and all those remain as sweet memories.
