I remember when I was in high school and much of my college years I went and got my nails done and refilled faithfully. I got the nails to begin with because of the different colors and designs I would get my nails done each week. But then as they started to break and I had to go through the process of them sawing down my real nails and after so long it began to hurt. So I started the process of weening off of the fake nails. Once I soaked my hand for hours in polish and acrylic remover to get the nails off. My real nails underneath were long but so thin that they broke off within a few days so I had to start from scratch. It took I want to say a few years for my nails to get back to normal strength. It made me wonder are getting fake nails put on really worth the trouble? Wouldn't it just be better to grow your real nails instead of going through the process of damaging your real nails just to put fake nails on top? I've talked to many guys who don't even like girls who wear fake nails which make me wonder why i got them in the first place. After college I focused on growing my real nails and they are not bad at all and stay a pretty good length. How about you? Do you have any horror stories with artificial nails?

I used to get acrilics all the time but I didn't like how it messed up my nails so I stopped doing them. It's true what you say, the natural nail is way better. I actually like my nails so I just leave them alone most of the time. Sometimes for like a special occassion I'll put on press-on nails which look just like acrilis and are not as bad for your nails. But besides that, they're natural most of the time.

I agree with you, they have some nice designs for press on nails now a days and they are really much cheaper and better for your nails than getting them done. I like mine natural as well. Thanks for your response.

My nails were always very weak and yellowed when I wore acrylics as well. I don't wear them now because well...I am too cheap to pay for them! My husband likes them though, so every once in awhile I will get them done. Having anything covering my fingernails including any kind of polish kind of annoys me though. I end up picking at it. I have only been to one nail technician that really did a good enough job that I would have paid money to keep my nails done. She happens to be in a completely different state than where I live now though.

I am too cheap to pay for artificial nails too...lol. They do have a damaging effect after the first time you get them done so I finally realized that it just didn't make sense, I knew I couldn't keep getting them done like that forever so I decided to get my nails back healthy before they had the chance to get infected or any of the other things that go wrong with fake nails. Thanks for your response.

I agree with you and most guys i know and many of my ex- boyfriends didn't particularly like the fake nails or girls that wear a lot of makeup. I was never one to wear alot, just a little eye liner and lip stick. Thanks for your response.

I used to get my nails done all the time, and I was a bartender when I did it. The nails would constantly get wet, and pop up, or I would bang them on something and it send this horrible pain through my body. I thought, "Why am I doing this?" Now I cook all of the time and the nails wouldn't work anyway, all that food underneath..you can never get it out. I don't believe guys even really care, I'm sure some do, but, if that is something that is really important to him, than we are at different places. I would much prefer a short natural nail to something that looked fake.

When I was in high school fake nails were a huge deal! I always kept mine up and freaked out if one broke. Now I could care less!!! I think it is an age thing. In highschool you're fighting for popularity and to stay on top. Then when you grow up, get married, and have kids nothing matters!!

I've never worn artificial nails much but the times I have I've found them annoying and a bit uncomfortable. It just feels like something is stuck on the end of my fingers - which I suppose it is lol! My own nails grow easily and they are strong so don't break often so I don't really need to use artificial ones.

I went to school to do nails. About half of the schooling was all the things that could happen from false nails. Bacteria growth and stuff like that. Not that I have ever witnessed it happen. I used to do my nails regularly but I decided they were to much of a hastle. They got in my way when I was cleaning and stuff. Some people just dont feel put together with out them.

I have been same like you and damage my nails and then used to wear those fake nails. But the most guys I met didn't like it.I find out, they were very conservative about nails and do not really care about color, or long. They just care if you have a clean nails and that was it.Anyway it really matter what you care about. If you like your natural nail, then I will wear them.If I love fake I would wear those. It should really matter to you becuase caring about your nails is caring about yourself and it is for you , not for others.

I like the natural things instead of fake ones. Fake ones not only take much time to take care of them, but also cost losts of money. But first of all, it may hurt your healty. My wife got a disease in her nail after she gave birth to a bay and I was wondering why she got that kind of disease as we did't touch any kind of source that can spread that disease. Now I guess it is just because she used to do something to polish her nail and make the nail weak to a point easy to be infected.

I had fake nails for a few months and they were great. However, my reason for getting fake nails was to get out of the habit of biting my nails. After a while I took them off and grew my nails back and I never bit them again! It is now so addictive to care for my nails. I love having nice nails.

I get my nails done, because my guy in prison really likes it. My husband doesn't even notice it seems like until his back itches. I have to wear fake nails if I want any nails at all, because mine are so weak and worthless. I usually try just to get the silk wrap, because it is a top strong coat, and not the actual nail, so it is more like having your own. I was 16 and in the bed of a truck going down the road traveling to Illinois. I was hot and decided to open the window on the cap. I pulled on the window release, and the nail popped off, and the real nail came with it! That fu***ng hurt!

I have worn acrylic nails for almost 20 years. My husband could care less whether I wear them or not. They always look good and I never have to paint them myself. My real nails are pretty much worn down to nothing. One day I will take a break from them again, like I did when I was pregnant with my children, but not for a while. To me, they are SOOOOOOOOOO worth it!
