How do you stop a gossipper in his/her tracks?

I got this idea while responding to a gossip discussion. I have too effective ways that stops gossippers in there tracks and will share them with you because every one is talking about gossipping but noone I notice is giving any solutions. My two suggestions are: 1. When the gossipper comes to and begins to talk ask waht did you say about me/him/her? This all depends on who is being attacked here. Gossippers never tell what they say. From my experience they have never said anything but this will cause them to think twice about coming to you with gossip but be prepared to be the one the gossipper attacks afterward. 2. When the person starts talking and calling names tell him or her that you are going to call the person being discussed to defend themselves. This one works for certainty more than number one and he/she will not return. You will be blacklisted and become the centre of attack but at least people will know what you stand for. Do you have any other solutions? The Bible says here no wood is the fire goeth out so where the is not backbiter(gossipper) strife ceaseth.

Hi Sharon! Gossipers are everywhere. Some gossips have resulted in bitter relationships, ending of Career, mental sickness etc.I do not think that a gossiper should be encouraged. So I would make it clear to him/her that I am not interested to hear anything he/she wants to say. Indifference definitely do discourage a gossiper.

Thats very true Ann. It is something I have learnt too and when they know that you are like that they stay far from you but you will also come under there attack, but then what they have to say never really matter. Thanks for responding and One love to you!

I agree that either of those should work. I know a few ppl who are die-hard gossiper's and my defense from them is to change the subject. They get sidetracked and forget what they were so hot to tell you about. AT PEACE WITHIN ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

hey I like this too. Thanks for responding. I guess when there is a change of subject anyone would forget what they were going to say!

spit on them. if that fails, jump on them, foaming at the mouth and start pulling their hair out while shouting, " you dirty little potty mouth gossiper! STOP IT!"

Hahaha! I think that is the first feeling one gets but in the end you would be in the same category as them so I had to laugh. Thanks Sand for responding with such humour behind it too. I am a christian so that would not sit too well with me and if it is a church or work situation ths certainly would not be godly nor professional but you indeed made me remember one thing that there is laughter in even the most serious time. Thanks partner! God bless

thanks for your tips on how to deal or stop gossipers. If it happens to me, i will jst ignore them cause they are just the one who is wasting their time. I wouldn't pay attention cause it's not true. people like that just don't know what to do with their life. I will just tell them to do something worthwhile. :)have a nice day!

Well Claire thanks for your suggestion but for some people these things actually hurt and I know from experience. Thanks for sharing though.
