Unfortunately, the police are human just like the rest of us. Some of them are even ...GASP... thieves! http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070915/ap_on_fe_st/odd_police_stolen_snacks_2 At the link above is the story of some police who got caught. BTW: If you think about this story and what it means about police power and the irresitable temptation to abuse it, you might just start to get an inkling of why the police should never be the only ones to have guns in a free society.

"Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely"... This article is a fine example of a slippery slope, and the temptation to take advantage of kindness and appreciation. This is also a fine example of the "slippery slope effect" and how something innocent can gradually turn into something totally wrong. How many times has this happened?...Public servants and politicians who go in with nothing but good intentions do a small favor or receive a small gift of appreciation...and the next thing you know they are buying and selling influence and taking bribes and everything that goes with it. Never should the police be the only ones armed, and never should a no-knock search warrant ever be issued, and never should a SWAT team be used for routine police work, including interacting with the public. The ONLY time these resources should be used is when they are actually needed, and not simply because they are there so why not use them.

We think so much alike I must ask my mother if I had a twin brother she gave up for adoption without telling me.

Policeman - Policeman smiley
There are bad people in every profession unfortunately, but where would we be without the Police in times of need, luckily most are honest with just a few who can't seem to resist the temptations of life...

If you ask me Red, all too common and nothing is ever done about it and they WILL get off and away with their crimes.
