About Netflix, Blockbuster rental via postal service....

My grown children use these rentals through the mail and love them. I am a little leary of it myself, I am so used to going to the store, but it is becoming a pain to make sooo many trips and the movie not being there and gas is so high now too. My kids have always used Blockbuster, but my daughter recently tried the free 2 week with Netflix and she likes it very much. I was wondering what recommendations my friends here on mylot would suggest. I'd like to hear the pros and cons on renting videos or dvd's rather this way. I have a sattellite and can order from home, but I don't like this method either, if a cloud comes along or someone calls or I have to put the movie off til later, well we're out the money spent to rent it. So I'm looking forward to hearing from as many people as will respond to this.

I use Netflix. I have also tried Blockbuster online. Both are great services. I find that they are a better value than renting movies individually at the store. I can watch up to 2-3 dvds per week through the mail order service, which would cost me upwards to $12 at the store. I only pay $15 per month for the service. The only thing that annoys me is that I have to wait for the next movie to come in the mail!

Thank you ma_belle for sharing with me. I wondered what the cost was, it sounds like it is a lot cheaper than what we are currently paying at movie gallery. I love the fact that you can have movies coming in each week. We don't go out anywhere, and if we do it's just to eat dinner or rent movies. So it would really be ideal for us to have them mailed directly to the house. Do you get the newer movies or is it a waiting list for those?

I have a friend that has been doing Netflix for about 2 years, and she loves it! No sorting through at the video store, and they come right to your door! She's a real movie buff, and used to buy them, but now she doesn't have to. She likes the choices that they have.

My husband has been renting from Netflix since 2003. He doesn't have HBO or anything like that on our cable, so he rents tons of movies. He's on the 8-at-a-time plan and gets them often and watches them and sends them back quickly. He does rent once in awhile from Blockbuster here in town, but most of his movies come from Netflix.

Wow your hubby must be an avid movie watcher like we are. I didn't know they had an 8 at a time plan. That would be great for us, lots of older movies we never have seen before. Thank you so much for sharing with me.

I think Netflix is GREAT not only is it fast and saves gas (money!!) but it also has instant viewing where you can watch movies instantly on your computer

We are not fond of watching a movie on the computer screen, maybe if I had a laptop with a bigger screen, I am so spoiled to my tv set. Thanks for sharing with me though, I may give Netflix a try.

I use blockbuster online and Love it! It’s cheap and so easy. But the kicker is the movie envelopes that come in the mail can be turned into your local blockbuster for another movie rental. So you don’t even have to wait- Finish the online movie- take it to the store- pick out a new movie- Free of charge- Blockbuster store mails the movie in that day- and the next one is sent out to you (from online) What could be better?? You can watch the movies in your time- no late fees- you can keep them as long as you want- and there is a much better chance of getting that new release from online rather then in store-

I am considering trying Netflix as well as my coworker and her husband love it and my parents love it too. I usually buy movies on dvd so this would save me money on gas and from buying movies that I may not watch more than once. I have not tried Blockbuster either and do not know anyone that uses them. Netflix definitely is good in that they do not charge late fees and provide quick service.

I don't know what points2ship has to do with dvd rentals, but I checked the link out and it looks interesting. I'm going to save it and check into it later when I get some more time. Is there another link where I can sign up and you get the credit for it? Thanks for sharing with me and have a great day :)
