2 things I do is never use shopping bags, both are harmful to the enviroments, I carry a backpack (messager bag) or a reusable stor bag. some stores will even give you a discount for providing your own bags. please check your local stores policys. second, Im a fiend for coffee. I never use a coffee shops or convienant stores cups though. both are not enviromentally friendly, I use my own plastic cups with llid (travel mug) im helping, the enviroment and also saving money. as its cheaper as well.
