Do you know of any urban legends, especially one that is local to you? If you don't know what an urban legend is, its a story of questionable or doubtful authenticity - or perhaps major exaggeration - based on events that are fairly recent - or recurring - it is usually a horror type story - maybe involving a wild beast like a werewolf, or chupacabra, or aliens or the like. There were a lot of werewolf stories around where I lived in Maryland. Some involving someone who lived in a patch of woods near by, where supposedly little kids clothes were found torn near an old cabin and stories of werewolf sitings right there as well. But nothing specific - and of course, being so old, both MD and VA abounded with ghost stories. So many battlefields or places like nunneries which had burned to the ground - although I'm not sure that counts as Urban Legend. So what stories do you have?

Some people actually believe the one about the girl babysitting happened near the town where I live. They say she was babysitting some kids on the outskirts of town on an acreage. She put the kids to bed and went to watch tv. About an hour later she heard a weird noise upstairs. Thinking it was one of the kids getting up she went to check. When she got to one of the bedrooms she saw a wild looking mad standing over the boy whose mouth was duck taped and he was strapped down. The man was cutting off the boy's fingers. When he saw the babysitter he ran at her and knocked her cold. For some reason he didn't kill her. Anyways, legend has it that the boy lived but was missing some fingers and the babysitter is in an assylum somewhere. There are no records to back this story up and its the most told urban legend we have.

Being from philadelphia, there are stories about the jersey devil and the pine barrens. Of course, there was local folklore. Someone or something constantly painted the fenceposts red and made it look like blood. these stories are lots of fun when you are a teen-age boy!

They all involve a monster, the jersey devil, coming out of the woods and molesting a teen-age girl or killing a teen-age couple. The jersey devil is the fourteenth or fifteenth child of a woman who lived in the Pine Barrens and cannot be killed.

The only urban legend I heard of where I live is in the orange groves people have seen big foot or something like it. My mom told me this and I could not believe she believed such a thing especially because it's in a busy city in california.

Well urban is something of or relating to the city. I would be suprised if there were some humanoid person if they hung around a busy place.
