Pitbull Attacks- Always the Owners Fault?

I'm curious about everyones opinion on this subject. I honestly think that every pit bull attack (or any other breed for that matter) can somehow be linked to a mistake that the owner has made (not that it's always does purposely or anything). What do you think?

I couldn't agree with you more. Being a dog owner, no matter the breed, is a huge responsibility and should be taken seriously. Unfortunately, so many people get dogs as pets and do little more than stick the animals in a yard and feed them every day. I believe that we have to establish ourselves as our dogs pack leader and let them know that they follow us, not the other way round. I have watched a great deal of tv about dogs, including one show in particular called "The Dog Whisperer". Cesar Millan is a dog psychologist who specializes in dealing with problem animals. It seems like the majority, if not all of the cases that he deals with turn out to be the owner not dealing with the animal properly. He has some very definitive theories about discipline and respect when it comes to dogs and he's almost always right. I say almost, even though I've never seen him proven wrong because I don't believe in absolutely, but he's pretty close! He has a special affinity for pit bulls in particular and has several in his own pack at the dog psychology center in Los Angeles. I would advise checking him out if you don't know about him. Here's his web site, so check him out, I think there are some episodes on there that you can watch. http://cesarmillaninc.com/dogwhisperer/

Most of the time indirectly it usually is the owners fault. If properly trained and supervised I know that some animals still bite. All you can do is do everything right most of the time this is all that is needed to prevent trouble. There is always an exception that comes along somewhere.

Well actually it normally depends on their mood. But when they were not in a good mood they wont loook whether its owner or not just they will rush at the person.

That's not true. You can't apply human reasoning to an animal. They aren't human and subject to the same moods that we are. An dog is an animal who thinks in terms of instinct, period. They follow the strictures of the life they've been trained to follow or they simply behave instinctually, nothing more. They also react to the behavior of the humans that they interact with. A person who behaves correctly in the presence of a dog will not be attacked.

Really? You blamed a dog's MOOD for attacks. Dog's don't have MOODS.

Personally, I've never owned a Pit, but I had a friend that owned two and they were the most playful and gentle dogs I've ever seen. Yes, they would get mean if anyone tried anything with their owner. I think it can sometimes be blamed on the owner, because some owners don't interact with the dog enough. They simply own them... nothing more. Some owners are mean to the dogs as well which can cause them to be a bit ... cranky. =P Other times I think it could be directed at the attitude of the person being attacked. Dogs can sense things that humans can't. Just like they say of horses, they can smell fear. They know when someone's afraid. Maybe they mistake that for anger? Who's to know. But, I truly believe the actions of the human being attacked could be directly to blame for a Pit's aggravation.

I do agree, because the common misconception is that pit bulls are vicious by nature. However, this is not the case at all. Pit bulls are by far some of the most gentle dogs I have ever run across.
