Winter Blankets - Use them or not?

Although the days here in Boston are very nice the nights are getting very cold. I started taking my blankets out of storage. I'm not comfortable sleeping with a lot of blankets so when I make my bed I only put a sheet and a comforter. Right now the comforter is just enough for me and I even sleep with the bedroom window open a few inches. Probably by the time October gets here I'll add a blanket under the comforter. Most of the time I will end up throwing the comforter off myself while I'm sleeping because I can't sleep if I'm too hot and since the heat will be going on I definitely won't need both. Are you the type who likes to sleep under a lot of blankets when it's cold? Do you make your bed with a blanket or just keep one folded at the bottom of the bed just in case?

Hi Ctrymyziklvr, Well, for me, I don't have to add more than one blanket since it is not that cold during winter here. And in fact, it never snows and seldom freezes. WBR,Andy

You are VERY lucky if it seldom freezes and never snows. Those are the nights I like to throw on a few blankets even if I end up throwing them off.

Now I really hate Minnesota. It snows in September and has snowed even in May here before. Ugghh! HAHAHA!!

Here in the Hudson valley, my windows are still wide open. Right now a sheet and a loght weight comforter. The heat in my bedroom only goes on when the thermostat goes below the minimum on it -- which I think is 45. I can't sleep when I am too warm, but prefer a mountain of blankets to having the room warm. I also use my labs for warmth...one will lean on my legs the other on my back...they are better then any electric blanket

I can't sleep if it gets too warm either. The room being cold feels good but I might put a few blankets on to keep comfy.

I would rather have the air cold and more blankets. When the heater is too high or it gets too warm then I dont sleep well. I have 3 blankets that I keep on the bed.

I actually liek to sleep with only one blanket, so I have differing down comfortors for this. I love down becuase it is cozy and snuggley without being very heavy. If fact, I hate having too much weight on me when I sleep. I feel like I am being smothered and it can even give me nightmares. I need something light yet warm, especially because I like to sleep in a cold room.

Whether it's cold outside or I have the AC on I sleep with a comforter and a sheet plus two other blankets. I'm always cold so I pretty much live with a blanket covering me at all times, unless it's like 80 degrees outside and my AC isn't on! I try not to use the AC unless it's 85 and up! The order the blankets go in all depend on how cold it is. It's sheet and comforter with the other two on top if it isn't that cold, so I can push them down if I get hot and the one goes underneath if it's real cold cause its the best and warmest blanket ever.

We use just our down comforter and sheet all year around. We find its nice and warm in the winter/cold months and just right during the warmer tempatures as well. Once in a VERY great while we have to put another blanket on top. But again thats a very rare thing. So usually just the down and sheet are plently for all year around tempatures.

We turn off the heating and open the window to let in fresh, cold air. We also don't have blankets but use a duvet, a downie, a down filled sort of quilt encased in a sheet. My wife has just changed from a light summer downie to our winter downie but I often kick it off as it is still quite mild and no frosts with us yet. Sometimes I wake on a winters morning and there is frost on the inside of the windows! I much prefer the cold to the heat.

I also prefer to be cooler than warmer when I'm in bed.

I have a blanket & a quilt on my bed. The blanket is not that thick. I do this because because some nights are very cold & the quilt is not enough for me. Also, having a blanket, means that I can pull the quilt down on warmer nights. The temperature varies sop much here, that I need both.

I usually sleep with just a comforter on my bed year round, ctry. I have a heavier one for the cold weather and a lighter weight one for warm weather since I also use my a/c. Like you, I cannot stand a lot of heat, and I really don't like to wear clothing when I am sleeping. I do not like to be weighed down with a lot of covers on my bed. I will bring out a blanket when we start dropping into the zero areas of temperature, however.

I usually have a comforter and a thicker blanket. My boyfriend and I share a bed, and during the colder months it's nice to be able to completly wrap yourself into a blanket without leaving your partner freezing.

Years ago, when I was really suffering from arthritis, I read a magazine that had tips on dealing with pain. This grandmother used a sleeping bag. I tried it. The sleeping bag keeps the heat in. So I stopped using blankets and started using a sleeping bag. That was great! I toss and turn, so blankets would end up on the floor and I would be freezing. Then I could zip myself in and not keep waking up. But now, I have menopause. Blankets on because I'm freezing. Blankets off because I'm sweeting. Off, on. off, on. Just when you think you've got a problem solved. . ..

I have heard about using a sleeping bag to keep warm even if you don't have arthritis. It's a great idea for low people with low incomes trying to save on heat during the cold months. That good ol' menopause spoils everything doesn't it!!

No, I get too warm when I sleep with too many blankets. In the summertime, my bed has a sheet and a comforter during the day when the bed is made. When I go to bed the comforter is removed. In the wintertime, I have a sheet, blanket, and comforter. At night the comforter is removed to the side, in case I should get cold during the night. By morning the comforter is usually to the side because I have managed to kick it off during the night when I got too warm.

I like lots of blankets. I think it makes the bed cozy. I start out with a couple of blankets, and if we get too warm we just shove them off in our sleep.

We take one blanket when weather starts to get colder in November till Early December. Then , it gets colder and the Temperature drops to 2 to 4 Degree Celsius in the Night. We then take Quilts (They are Warmer than blankets ) and also use Heat Blowers.
