My photo has been selected!

Several weeks ago, my three year old decided to start picking lilies. She would pluck the buds off, before they had a chance to bloom. Somehow, she missed one. I hurried to grab the camera when I saw it in full bloom, and snapped a picture. I never intended to enter it into a contest, as I'm not a photographer, nor do I have any real talent.
I did anyway. I found a contest on picture.com with an ultimate grand prize of $10,000. I thought this was the best photo of my collection, so I entered it. I didn't think anything else for it.
Today, I received a note from picture.com. My photo of the lillies was selected as a semi-finalist in their contest! My photo was also selected to be printed in a new book set to be pubilished in 2008! I am just truely honored and excited about this.
Oh, the photo that I'm speaking of is the picture of the white lilies on my profile page. I'm still not expecting to win anything, as I don't know how many other people I'm "competeing" against. I'm just truely happy to have made it this far!

congratulations for your picture... it is really a very beautiful shot... i will pray for you that your picture will win a price... just beware of scam... if they ask you to transfer them some money before giving you the awards, then it is definitely a scam... good luck...

Thank you lingli. I'm afraid of what everyone said, that this will be a scam. It is sad, but still, I'm excited, cuz I posted my photo here, and a lot of people got to enjoy it! :)

Regardless whether you won or not, you took a beautiful picture!...You could always have it enlarged, matted and framed as a keepsake. Maybe it would look pretty in your L.R., D.R., or B.Room......And, did you know if you pull out the Stamens in Lilies they will last twice as long?...My daughter is an amateur photographer and takes beautiful pictures. She has sold some on Ebay, and at Craft Fairs. If you have a County Fair in your area you can also enter it. Try the bigger companies on photograph contests, like Kodak, Photomax, etc., and you will have lots of competition, but at least their legitimate. You can also look in Photograph Magazines for contests too. Good Luck and as I said before, your picture is beautiful!

Thank you for those kind words! :) Someone posted a site that has legitimate photo contests, so I think I'll try posting there. You gave me some great ideas, too. :) I may just have to save it for next year's county fair as well. Now THAT would be exciting! LOL!

You are quite welcome!...The County Fair would be so much fun...you can enter more than one picture too I believe....Do we have a photographer in the making?, lol! You just never know whats ahead for us....Good Luck and no matter what happens, you did take a beautiful picture!

creematee I was tickled for you being chosen as a finalist until I read the other responses. Too bad that there are these scams out ther. i once sent in a cute photo of one of my grandchildren to this type of contest. They then wated me to buy calanders, cups, etc,etc ot to get my friends to buy them. They also wer going to put her in a coffee table book. Well I think the picture looks great any way.

It is exciting, but I'm weary. I will make sure not to spend any money on this. If I want a calender, etc. All I have to do is make my own. LOL! :)

I just read their responses, so I'm wondering about it too. Try going to bbb.org and typing in the name of the website to see if anything negative comes up about them. There might even be a BBB logo on the site itself that shows it's legitimate. I hope it is. But even if it turns out to be not so good, just the fact that your picture got noticed like that is so wonderful. Good luck hon.

That's great, creematee! Like I always say, it's not the winning that's so important, it's about being recognized for your art. I wouldn't despair quite yet since you've made it this far-you just might end up winning that prize!

That is a beautiful photo - good job.
But as a previous poster has already pointed out, I too got the same letter. It is a money making scheme. You have probably already been told much how much it will cost you to get a copy of that book they say your picture will be published in. Think about it.... why would they not give a copy of the book to all the finalists in the contest? Don't send them any money. It is a scam.

You are absolutely correct! I'm not sending any money, nor am I sending the bio/profile info back to them. Like you said, it would only make sense to give the winner at least a free book! :)

Hi Creematee, your photo is really beautiful, and I rated it too. As for the contest - good luck and hope you'll win the price :) I entered such a contest a few years ago with a pesy of mine and same thing happened as other MyLotters have replied to you inthis discussion, I was told to have been selected, after that they started sending me letters in the mail, and with email to enter the following one, to pay for havig my poesy in a book and what not. I guess these sites use one and the same software program, and way of sending emails to the so called winners too.
It's a pity, however there are also real sites for photo contests that you could submit your beautiful picture to.
Good luck in any case and keeo making beautiful photos now and than :)

Thank you for the kind words, Fortunes. :) I am believing more and more everyday that this is some kind of scam. That's OK, though. I got to share it with my mylot friends and hopefully, soon to be friends, and that's what matters most to me. :)
