A couple of days ago I recieved an email from who I thought was paypal asking to update my account information. They had sent me this before so I logged on last time and did it and everything was fine. This time I went directly through the email put all my information in. A couple of days later I was awaken by my husband. Our bank account was 2k in the negative. Someone charged over 2k to our bank account to spain. Its been alot of trouble getting everything back to normal. I just want you guys to know that this is happening so it doesn't happen to anyone else. I did recieve another email yesterday and I reported it to paypal.

Yes, you should be very careful about Paypal, because they have a lot of scams going out here through the internet, careful about giving away, password, and always make sure that you see the logo, for paypal, and that it is a secured site. and always sign out.

Ok, then look for a logo that says secured site, if it it's there it is not Pay-pal.

the scammers use the logo, but they don't know your name - my advice is to ignore the logo, anyone can copy it

Never Ever reply to an official e-mail through the same e-mail, go directly to the site login, from your saved favorites, banking instatutions never ask online for you to update your details, my paypal site is linked to an account with only 0.15 cents in it, when I purchase anything and pay by pay pal I just transfur the cash into that account, the account I use has a nil overdraw limet on it, so even if they wanted to no one can take anything but 0.15cents!!

The same email came my direction. Pay Pal told me some months ago if it's one of their emails, it will always begin with Dear......(your name), not Dear Customer. I also reported it to Pay Pal. Sorry you had such a bad experience. I bet that was a big hassle.

Sorry to hear what had happen, but PayPal never sends a E-Mail with a link for any updates...I have gotten many of that kind of E-Mails and I always just go to the real site and log in to check it out..Also I have forwarded the E-Mail that I get so PayPal can trace them down.. Another E-Mail scam going on is they are mailing like they are your Bank..Some may even be like your Bank, but once again your Bank won't E-Mail you to update anything..The best is to go right to you own link and not in a E-Mail...There are so many scams now days that we all have to be careful about what info we give out...

Igot the same email but I didn't think about it being a bogus email until just now. I just thot they made a mistake b/c the link led nowhere. Paypal has warned they do not send out emails unless we make transactions. Then they send notifications they have moved funds from our accounts. Any thing else is not from them. Thanks so much for the heads up on this.

do a virus and spyware scan straight away - you may think the link led nowhere - think again!!

I knew there were scam e-mails for paypal out there. I even got one before I ever had a paypal account. But that is so scary! I'm sorry that it happened.

I am very sorry to hear that happened to you. That is horrible. I get these e-mails all of the time, usually in my spam mail box though. Once I got in in my inbox but could tell right away it was suspicious because of the senders e-mail address. I went to the site and compared their site to paypal.com and it was almost identical but had some things missing at the bottom of the page that paypal.com did have.

This is scary! We should all be careful in sending our information to anyone. We should double check if its authentic or not.

I'm so sorry that has happened to you. Paypal will never ask you for any personal information or an update of your account in an email. This did happen to me a few years ago and I ended up downloading a virus. If you ever have any "doubts" about an email from Paypal you can "forward" it back to them at "spoof@paypal.com"....they will answer you ususally within the same day and let you know if they sent it and if it is a legitimate email. The same goes for Ebay if you are listed on that site. The two companies work together. Again, I'm very sorry this has happened to you, it's horrible.
