I cannnot stand when people assume a person's personality or lifestyle just from their appearance! What do you think?

People always assume that I'm so weirdo because I wear all black and I keep to myself, but if you really got to know me, you'd know I'm really a good person who is a lot of fun. I just prefer to wear black clothes and band t-shirts because I feel comfortable in them.

That is because appearance tells us a lot about a person. I would be hard pressed to start up a conversation with somebody who obviously didn't have a bath for a couple of weeks. Or somebody who always walks slouched over, that would tell me a lot about that person. I agree, appearances might mislead. They are however a first indicator of who that person is.

I also very much hate this. Unfortunately, it seems to be the way that people are raised to be, and thus becomes difficult to stop. I think that as people teach their children to not stereotype people based on appearance, it will eventually improve, and probably has improved quite a bit already, at least in some parts of the world.

I try to avoid doing this myself, yet after spending years as a waitress, I must admit I do occassionally think that way. Like when you see a family with tons of tiny kids - you think that odds of a big tip are slim, or a teen couple out for their first real date - once again, tip odds are slim in your favor, that kind of thing. We even would make little bets with each other sometimes when we were bored or slow over that stuff. But that's as far as we took it. We never name called, or anything that dramatic. It wasn't really the way people looked, but mostly their behavior and attitudes that made us prejudge them. A family with tiny kids meant frazzled angry adults, teens usually didn't have much life experience in general and may not even know to tip, that kind of thing. It wasn't so much appearance, but definetly attitude and behavior that still leads me to judge people. It's bad, but I do at least admit to it.
