A meteorite was reported to have fallen in the community of Carancas, Peru, near the Bolivian border. It formed a crater 6 metres deep and 30 metres in diameter and it was said to have a foul smell. This time the meteorite fell in an uninhabited area, but do you fear one might fall in a populated area, where it might cause much damage and hurt people?

hi sylvia. it is good to note that so far, these meteorites fall in uninhabited areas. yes, i agree with you that it will be very disastrous if a meteorite falls in a village or in a major business district. no one man can stop any falling thing that large from getting smashing into his place. anyone can just imagine the havoc it can cause, the damage to property and more astoundingly, damage to life. we are all aware that damage to life is not only in terms of lives lost during the incident but, moreso on the aftermath which involves the ill effects of the incident in the lives of the people who have been affected and then survived with some disabilities.

Thanks for answering! I noticed that your name sounds hispanic, are you Latin American by any chance? I also noticed that you have 7482 points after your name, so you must be an avid Myloter! Yes, it is good that meteorites have so far fallen on uninhabited areas and I cant even imagine what it would be like if they fell in inhabited places! Regarding the aftermath, well, even though Carancas must be a small village, they are now saying that hundred of people have reported having nausea, vomiting and breathing problems! That was just from visiting or being close to that meteorite! Scary, isnt't it?
