If you do get a full night sleep, do you feel like you wasted the night?

I have been an insomniac for as long as I can remember. I get an average of 3-4 hours of sleep a night, but this works for me. I do not feel drained or tired int he morning. Recently, I got sick, and was sleeping an average of 14 hours a night for 2 weeks. I felt like I was wasting my time with sleep? How strange is that?? I know that I needed the sleep to get better, but I felt like I didn't have enough time in the day to finish what I needed to do! Am I just wierd, or does anyone else feel this way when they get a good amount of sleep?

I think you are very lucky not to need much sleep and I know there are people who get by on only 4 hours with no problems. I wish I could be the same as like you I feel sleep is a waste of time. However we do most of our healing when we sleep which is why you slept so much. I don't think you are wierd but lucky as you can get so much done in a day.

Thank you for responding! sometimes my lack of sleep is annoying, honestly. None of my friends run on my time schedule, but, I am glad that it seems that I have more time in the day. My dad sleeps less than I do, and my kids are following me in their sleeping patterns, which actually worries me, but they all get very good grades, and are not really tired, so I guess they get what they need, huh?

I dont think you are an insomniac since 3-4 hours sleeping works well for you. And it was very good that you could sleep 14 hours a night when you were sick. Enough sleep helps you to recover soon. I could hardly fall asleep if I am sick. It is painful. You are not wierd at all. Your body modulates very well. How enviable I am. I love to sleep as long as I can one time. Enough sleeping makes women slim. *^_^*

If a guy always sleeps 3~4 hours, then I guess there is something wrong with his body. But if that just happens accasionally, that's ok and there is no need to worry about that. Sufficient sleep will rest the mind well and a rested mind can keep the body well.

Thank you for the welcome hun! I really like it here so far! There is so much to do, and so many people to meet, and LOTS to talk about! As for being sick, the doc said it is just a sort of flu virus going around out here. The only thing it does is wipe you out! I am feeling much better now!

(envy) i am also a single mom so sleeping mostly at the day is not also a good paln. so you are lucky having to have a good rest for two weeks. as long as you are doing it for your body's benefit then it is not a waste. hope you feel better now. have a nice day and a good night sleep. wink wink

I undesrstand what are you talking about.I feel sometimes very similar, when I am tired and need to take a nap.I feel like I am wasting my time, while I want to do some in the day.Sure we need a rest, but when You have so much to do and don't have time for that , it makes you only stressed.

I think that we need at least 8 hours to keep fit .so,if we have a lot of things to do ,we first should have a rest ,i think health is more important than the money

sometimes do i.i feel it's a waste of time and i didn't have enough time in the day.but if you got sick, you'd better have a full night sleep.how did you get sick?is it because you sleep time too brief?i advise you sleep 7 hours per day even if you recovery.7 hours per day is the most comfortable time for sleep.

I can't sleep for more than 3-4 hours UNLESS I am sick. Sometimes I wish I could, but not becasue I am tired, more so because none of the people I associate with run on my schedule, lol! I got sick just becasue there was a bug going around and it bit me! I am feeling much more like myself now.

Hi!whiteangel I understand your problen as i have my husband who is an insomniac. Its been like this for years. He sleeps for 4 hours maximum. If those 4 hours have been real sound sleep he feels good.I am one person who needs a good nights sleep. If for some reason i have to sleep late then i feel terrible the next day. And i dont think i have wasted my time i feel my body needs those hours of rest. When i wake up i always find my husband sitting up either on the computer or his desk getting his work done.I find him really weird because i wonder how he manages with so little sleep. But one thing i notice whenever he falls ill he just needs bed rest for a day and he sleeps the whole day, during which time i think his body must be recouping.I think my husband also feels its a waste of time.If we are on a holiday i find he sleeps well.so i guess that must be the reason.

14 hours a night is a little too much for a sleep. When I was still a student, I usually have 5-8 hours of sleep a night because of my busy schedule; however, when I graduated, I regained my sleep pattern and usually have 8-10 hours of sleep a night. I'm a bit insomniac as well but I am able to manage it by clearing my mind of all the stressors. I suggest that you try to have at least 6-8 hours of sleep a night because it is the most ideal number of hours for sleep.

If I do get a full night sleep, i never feel like I wasted the night; instead I feel more relaxed and energized and ready to start the day ahead productively. On the contrary, if I don't get a good night sleep, I feel so tired and stressed out and the consequence is I'm not able to do the things that I wanna accomplish for the day.

I don't know what job are you doing,whiteangel4U. But i know that sleep is not a waste of time but sleep for 14 hour is a waste of time. Every human need about minimum of 8 hour sleep each day. Maybe you sleep for 8 hour and above is ok,but 14 hour is too long already. XD Feeling better already? Hope you recover soon.

I am looking actually looking for an internship now. I am a full time student taking 12-16 credits at a time and trying to finish school by Christmas. I have 3 children ages 8, 6, and 4. I am going through a divorce from their dad who is in Iraq right now on his second tour (this being his 3rd deployment in 5 years). I am hoping to find a part time job for the few hours I have between school and picking the kids up from school. I know its a lot, but the kids having what they need is worth the time and effort!

This is also very true! As I said above, we either need to extend the day by a few hours, or forgo sleep more...... I know, not a healthy way of thinking, but I do think that way sometimes.

It is just something I have done since I was a baby. My mom said I quit taking naps around 4 months old. I would be up by 5 am, and not go to bed until after 10pm. I can't nap during the day usually. If I do, I wake up VERY groggy and can't seem to function well for the rest of the day.

Even though you say you "feel fine." on 3-4 hours of sleep, your body obviously is not because you slept so much when you were sick. It is normal to sleep a little more when you get sick, but not for two straight weeks. When we don't get enough recuperative sleep our body runs down and then we can't do anything at all. I know a few people who are insomniac and they may get stuff done but it may take longer to do because they are easily distracted, but they are always on edge even so. They developed nervous habits, or they are absent minded. But for the most part, they go along real good for awhile and then they totally crash and sleep a weekend away 18 hours straight, etc. I can go for a few days on little sleep but i always pay for it later even if its a week or two later. Maybe if you take cat naps it helps.

well in case its different,if i had a full night sleep i feel very great the morning i wake up.i feel a lot of energy and i am in the mood for everything because it is very seldom that i can get enough sleep because just like you sometimes i have sleeping problems.if i had 3 hours sleep i feel so very weak the next day but if i had 5 hours or more sleep i feel good the next day.

wow I thought I was the only person who felt like that about sleep.. I'm exactly the same as yourself. I only get about 4 hours a night but that's all I really need.. I get by and Id rather be tied and have everything done then be wide awake living in a mess trying to catch up on my chores. I love night time and I always have even as a child I would only get about 6 hours a night and get by fine. My mother is an insomniac even though she wouldn't admit it and I am exactly the same, my brother is also the same. I do believe that you pass it on to your kids cause one of my boys who's only 3 can stay up till all hours not showing any signs of being tied. So I believe that insomnia is pass down generations which worries me, I hate to think I'm passing on these bad sleep habits. I also am on a different clock as my friends, my best hours are from about 11pm to 3am that's when I really come alive. People think its strange that I visit or ring my mother and brother after midnight not believing they are still awake. I feel like its such a waste of time sleeping I can get so much done during the night and its always so peaceful and quiet. To be honest the more sleep I get the worse I feel now that is weird ..lol.. but to answer you question NO your not weird cause that would be calling myself weird..

14 hours a night ...??? Its too much!!! I get an extreme back ache when ever I oversleep..! SO my body alarm clock just never alows me to sleep that much!! And if its 14 hrs then yes I AM waisting my time in sleeping. A BIG amount of time. Did you know that we spend almost 3/4 of our life span in just sleeping..!! Well I am not that sure about that value (3/4) but it is kind of true and look you leading in this thing ,spending a big amount of your life in just sleeping!! You must cut it short to atleast 6-8 hrs if you can!! be healthy and yes..one more thing.....over sleeping makes the brain dull and it wroks slow!! :)

I think you slept for 14 hours every night becasue your body was recovering from sickness and sleep is the best medicine. Sleep is very essential for a healthy human being. It plays an important role. Everybody needs a proper sleep atleast 6-7 hours daily. It is very important. It is never a waste of time. I never think that way. Listen to your body requirements and you will feel that you need a proper sleep every night. Have a good night sound sleep every night.

Hi, i wonder how you do manage to survive with such less number of sleep hours! As i get sick the day i sleep less than 5-6 hours! What i feel is that our bodies get tuned to the number of sleep hours we give our body after a few days or daily sleeping for a X number of hours, like if you say you have been sleeping for just 3-4 hours per day, then after 4-5-6 days, you will get tuned to that and wont miss or feel the need for mopre hours of sleep, same ways, if someone is used to 7-8 hours of sleep daily, anything less than that can make them sick too. And why you fell sick was also because our body's normal adequate requirement is at least 6-7 hours of sleep in not the apt 8 hours, which is the best and ideal for an alert and healthy body and mind. So, incase we are not able to give those many hours of rest and sleep to our body, after a few days, it will break up and take its toll and in the end you will cover up the sleep requirement by sleeping longer , as in your case, till those numbers of sleep hours are over. It happens with me, incase i am not able to sleep for at least 6-7 hours per day, and it happns with everyone, as work reqirements are such on some days, then on weekends, i just sleep and slep, and cover up with the lack of sleep in week days. So i would suggest, that have your regular 6-7 hours of sleep daily and you wont find yourself facing such problems.

Funny, That I'm an opposite person than you. I like to sleep a lot before, but already a few months my life has chance since I really need to wake up in the morning to prepare my little daughter for going to school. But when I sleep a lot, I never feel that I was wasting a lot of my time. Just never think about it.
