I'm expecting baby #4 in about 5 weeks. Nesting is setting in big time already. I busted out my sew machine last night, and now I'm going through my fabric stash to see what diaper friendly material I have. I cloth diapered my other 3 about 1/2 the time, but not at all when they were newborns. I have quite a large collection of medium & large sized diapers, but very few smalls & no newborn yet. I intend to only use cloth on this baby. So how many newborn sized cloth diapers did you have on hand when your baby was born?

i didn't cloth diaper my newborn, but as a WAHM who makes diapers i've researched quite a bit into this. at the very newborn age you don't want to have to do laundry every single day as you are still recooperating and getting used to having a new little one around. i say 3 dozen is a good number. i've talked to manymany moms who prefer prefold diapers over the fitteds, all in ones, and pockets for the newborn stage because they grow so quickly. their weight, size, and shape changes literally overnight. the prefolds can also be used as doublers as the child gets older and outgrows them so they aren't useless once the child outgrows them congrats on the baby!!!

Thank you for the response & the congratulations :) I do have help with laundry & we do have a washer & dryer in the house, so it shouldn't be so very bad. But you're right, we all be wanting to spend time with the baby not the laundry room.

There should be an edit option- the sentence should read something like "we will all be wishing to spend time with the baby..."
