I was using motor cycle for local conveyance and it is dangerous to go on two wheeler because of traffic congestion. I avoid both the car and the scooter to go places where there is no parking facility. only when all the family members want to go out, I use the car. The bike is sparingly used to get some materials from nearby places. It is quite economical, because a litre of petrol, one can go safely to 55 to 60 kms but then the mainteance is quite high in bikes compared to scooter. My brother uses scooter and he hardly services it, most of the service like cleaning carbaurettor, plugs, are done by himself and only for wheel alignment, greasing he gives it for servicing. The oil change etc. are doneby him. There are people in India who have been using the same scooter without any problem for more than a decade.

Scooters are fun, if you get a large enough one. The gas mileage is excellent. I can drive around town all week on 5 dollars. BUT, i have terrible luck with them breaking down. I've owned 3 now. The one i have right now used to do 70 and now does 50 so it has developed a problem also.
