There's "Lola" by The Kinks and "Michelle", "Dear Prudence" and "Eleanor Rigby" by The Beatles. There's "Maria" by Blondie (not to mention the song by the same title from West Side Story) and "Gloria" by Laura Brannigan. Steely Dan did, "Ricki Don't Lose That Number." Elton John sang, "Goodbye Norma Jean" and Ready for the World did "Oh Sheila" while pretending to be Prince and the Revolution. Speaking of Prince, there's the infamous "Darling Nikki" as well. Europe did a power ballad about "Carrie" and Steve Perry did one about a girl named "Sherry." "Billie Jean" was not Michael Jackson's lover (she was probably too old for him) and Creedence CLearwater Revival sang about "Proud Mary." G'NR sang about "My Michelle" and lyrics or no, The Allman Brothers played a tune about a girl named "Jessica." There are probably more but my brain is fried so Tom Petty and I will have one "Last Dance With Mary Jane" before I head over to another discussion.

There's a song by The Beautiful South (I forget what it's called, but it's an abnnoying one that always gets stuck in my head) with the chorus "Jennifer, Alison, Philipa, Sue....(whole string of other rhyming girls names) I wrote this song for you" The song's being deliberetly ironic about writing a love song using a certain name so that people with that name would rush out and buy it and pretend the singer is singing it to them.
