I watch a program on last night where a family home schooled their kids because they were military and it was more convient for them. I personally could have never home schooled as I was the breadwinner and needed to be at work. I see advantages to both. Home schooling would be more convient..but are the kids missing the social aspect of being in school with other children their ages? When they do finish are they truly as polished as kids in school or do you think because of the one on one they are more polished and better educated? What are your thought on this?

I dont like it, if its possible its good to avoid it, school is as much about social as learning, kids need to be around other kids, they need to have enemies and friends to develop into good people.

I think you might be right. If they don't interact with others they can't develop people skills. Thanks for posting!

We homeschool our children. I feel that with public school, children are missing out on interacting and socializing with all different ages, and being a part of their community. As an adult, I've never once had to sit in a room with only my same-age peers and request permission to go to the bathroom.

Good for you. I am not to the understanding how you get your adgenda for teaching...from the state you live in? I think there probably is more available now then when my kids were growing up. In fact when my kids were growing up it was almost unheard of. Glad it works so well for you!

If I had children today, they'd be homeschooled. There is too many things going on in public schools for me to feel safe sending my kid to it. Not to mention the issues with prayer, the Pledge of Allegience, Homosexual education, ect. Considering that with homeschooling you still have to turn in the child's progress and they still have to take aptitude tests to be sure they are learning what they need to learn I think kids turn out just fine. My nephew was homeschooled for a year and he is doing fine in public school now. Several of my friends have said when their kids are school age they will be homeschooled. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I can see this too......there is alot of issues when partaking in a public school. Alot of things that are beyond a parents control when the kids are away from them. Too bad more parents aren't aware of all the programs for home schooling. There would be more control then over the ethics that are taught to the children.

I was homeschooled as a young child, but only for like two years. I don't think that they hold "the home schooled child" to the same standard as one in public school. Some woman are great at it, and do a wonderful job. But others just slack off, and just think that it's to easy for slackers too put that slacker attitude off on the kids. I also feel like who am I to teach my kid? This thing where any mother can teach their child is crazy, I mean we put teachers in public/private schooling through so much schooling. It's kind of stupid to just turn around and say, oh well if you pay this money you can teach too.

That is also true. I wouldn't have been able to teach my kids properly.....well not that I know of. My daughter has her masters in Education....she also teaches and it took 6 years for her to be where she is at. Some might be qualified.....I however don't feel like I would have been. Thanks for responding.
