What INSPIRES You?

Tell me please, or tell us what or who inspires you? Every inspiration counts in our life, and I would like to know what makes you tick? What inspires me most is people that go for their dreams, and don't let anyone or anything, or criticisms stop them! To be more precise, I admire those that try to make a difference, and change our perception of values and decency:) Because is not longer enough to be a good person. Is not longer enough to be and act as an individual and alone. Our world needs us to stand up together and to grow our human consciousness to a higher degree. This is what inspires me, and hope to get some good ideas from my MyLot friends too.

I think I admire most people who may have gone through holy hell in their lives, yet came out winners in life...perhaps in my mind one person I greatly admire is Oprah Winfrey--not only did she come from a poor background but was sexually abused by her own family members! Yet she never gave up on her goals and dreams, and she is one of the wealthiest people in the world today....and what is also great about her..she doesn't hoard her wealth either, but does a lot of good with her money to help others---she's a real demonstration of getting back what you give out to the world. As for my own inspirations? Since I've always been artistic, I've always had the creative muse to keep me going, and as far as my goals and dreams...I've been through my own setbacks, detours and living hells, but I've never lost sight of going after my dreams and goals and see them come into fruition--as far back as I can remember, I've always seen myself as a success...might take me awhile to get there, but I do plan to get there! :)

My mother had always inspired me. Even today, when she is not physically present, her words and actions inspire me. Other people who inspire me are those who have a positive attitude towards life, who love all and hate none.

My faith in God inspiresme to be all that I can be and gives me the courage and strenght to know that I can achieve anything I want as long as it is within His will. I have a deep desire to excel in everything and to show my child that with hard work and persistence she too can achieve whatever she wants. I think my child is one of my insopirations. The hardship that I faced working and studying I dont want her to go through it.

rickshaw - a mode of transport
Anything and everything can inspire me while when I am in one of my blackest moods, nothing inspires me really. I have heard of success stories but they have failed to actually inspire me coz I have seen that different people have different situations around them and separate ways of tackling such situations so what applied to one, may not necessarily apply to me. Instead I like to laud the efforts of underprivileged people who inspite of their disabilities come out and try to earn a decent living in a decent way. Two of them are two rickshaw-pullers in my locality one whose right leg is affected by polio and is reduced to a stick and the other has the left hand blown off from below the elbow. As you can see from the pix below, a rickshaw is similar to a tricycle and to pull it (alongwith passengers behind), with one leg or with one arm, is an achievement in itself which should be lauded. These men could have easily opted for begging but instead they chose to eke out a living the hard way. I would not really say that they inspire me as I am completely different to them and I have my own problems which I manage in my own way (I have to, there’s no way out), but this never-say-die of the human spirit does in a way reinforce my faith in myself.

Hmm - what a interesting question. I guess what/who inspires me most are people who stand up for what they believe in and don't "go with the flow". Whether we are talking about political figures like Nelson Mandela, or more "evryday" figures who stand up against vandalism and petty hoolaganism in our streets - I guess they all inspire me. I respect people who "dare to be different", and go their own way despite family and environmental pressures - those who are gay and admit in within homophobic societies for example, people from strict religious backgrunds who "dare" to reject their parents' religion because they have read a lot and just don't believe it anymore, people who fight for animal rights and welfare, or perhaps some of the women in strict Muslim societies, who are fghting to get more educational chances and freedom of choice for other women in their midst. All those kind of people inspire me.

Well, what inspires me -straightly speaking- is COFFEE... Evertime I drink a cup of coffee, is like a the moment of inspiration, more like a meditation. For example, in my city called Makassar, I started somekind of peace awareness movement, started from cafe to cafe. And the messages are regenerated it self, for months. Until one day morning in September 21st, 2003 (International Day of Peace) more than 5.000 people were gathered in a beach. They were local government, students, workers, professors, president of universities, businessmen, organizations, ngos, religion and ethnic leaders, artists, etc. The event was covered by main local media and 4 national tv networks. Ofcourse they didnt mentioned about it was started by drinking cups of coffee... And that was only started by me and my girlfriend, and ofcourse a cup of coffee. Some people in that city called us ?The Cafeist? :-) Thats how I came up to my ID here in MyLot, ?Kopitalisme? based on the words of ?Kopi? and ?Kental? means ?black coffee?. Funny thing, this month there was an article titled ?Kopitalisme? in one of a huge national newspaper called ?Republika?, clearly promoting ?Starbucks?... Ofcourse the local people of my city, was very upset about it. They were condemned ?Starbucks? as ?StarF*CK?... May fun be with you.

Thank you Kopitalisme for a great contribution in this discussion :) I am a coffee addict myself and couldn't live without it, and can imagine that for you it is a kind of the meditation trigger ;) Such a great thing has been brought forward because of it, good for you on your idea and the achievement! Reading the blogs of other women inspires me. Looking at the arts and crafts other people have made with their own hands inspires me. Spending time with other creative people inspires me.

I don't have any particular group or person that inspires me, this just depends on the day and happenings. The stories I read could inspire me, the movies I watch can too and those news I hear. But the best thing here is, I get inspired by those normal people who does good things. Either saving someone's life, helping their fellow men and also dedicating their lives for others. This I believe are the one's that gives me inspiration, to always do good everyday and share blessing with others..

I am inspired by other people who do great things for humanity. Someone who gives totally of himself/herself. An example would be Martin Luther King. On a lesser scale, I am inspired the ordinary person who gets out there in the community & does charity work.

Hi, When I am sad and unhappy, I get too upset with life sometimes. I like to stay along and I go thru all the magazines or other books and if I come across something or hear something that teaches the value of life and relationship, it inspires me and I start to think that life should not be wasted over small small things. We should take everything as a challenge and face it whether it is good or not good. We should be strong. There are many things that inspires me like a small child smiling etc.
