Hi just wanna know if you in your own country or ethnic or religious wait eight (8) days to name your new born babies? With me in my country some wait eight days, some twenty days and some forty days and some do it immidiately. Share your thoughts and lets see different beleifs and practices. Cheers.

Hi there. Nope, we usually have a name given or decided right there and then, and then we lift our babies to the four winds, north, east, south, west... This is what my parents done with us as well... My ethnicity is "Maori" native people of New Zealand...

Usually people where I live name their children right away, unless they just haven't thought of a name yet. In fact, most people already have names ready long before their children are born, though some people will change their minds when they see the child and believe the name just doesn't fit them.
We had our son's name (Dustin Xander) picked out several months before he was born. We picked it right after the ultrasound where we found out we were having a boy. And as soon as we saw him, we just knew we had chosen the right name for him. He's just such a Dusty. =P
In both of the sets of ancestors that I came from (I'm part Native American and part Irish) you were likely in the old days to have one name as a child and then earn another name when you grew older, especially if you were a warrior or a religious leader or some other important figure. I've studied a lot of Celtic history, and many of the heroes especially got new names based on their deeds instead of keeping the name they were born with.

Whereas here in Nigeria (West) we belive so much in name and event that surround the cming of a child and thus name hin/her such we also beleive that the name giving to a child do affect his /her life so we do all possible to give them soul lifting, sensible name so that as they grow up they live a baetter name by their name.
