Do You Think Men or Women Could Save Money Better?

I am wondering. What do you think? Men see us women as big spenders on clothes, skin care, accessories and makeup (all the "unnecessary stuff"). But we see men as big spenders on electronics, cars and bikes too. So what do you think? Who can save money better? P.S. *smiles* It's going to be fun to read all your responses! Thanks in advance!

I think women are much better at it than men for two simple reasons: 1. We don't have the "two heads one brain and not enough blood to run both at the same time" problem. If some pretty girl bats her long eyelashes at us instead of buying her jewelry or buying whatever she's trying to sell us... we ask her were she got that amazing mascara instead. and 2. All of our beauty care combined doesn't cost half as much as all of their "gaming" equipment and video games.

Thanks! I've never dated a man who was good with his money, no matter how much or how little he had. I'm not great with it either but I know my limits.

Well, it all boils down on the priorities of a particular person... between me and my husband... we both could not save any money because there is nothing to save since everything penny we have goes to our family's daily needs...

I think that women will have more money than men because although women spend alot on shopping, men would mostly foot the bill.

Hello wondericequeen, Yes, we are a big spender but I think, women are good at saving money too. As good as we can spend on everything available on this planet, we could be a good financial planner too. Men always think that we are the worst spender and they are the good saver, but to think of it, I agree that both 'titles' should go to us, women!

I think it doesn't really matter from gender but from person, if he or she can save money better.Somebody has it in the personality, to safe money and be ready for bad time in life too. Some of us just take a risk and spent money right away. If I can say about me, I think I am very responsible and know how to safe a money.but it is sometimes very hard when I see all that stuff in stores.lol

I don't think you can draw a line and say it's either or.......it just depends on the person. I am frugul. My daughter in law is not. My son spends lots of money too so it just depends on the person. Not gender.

In my view there is no gender difference whatsoever. It depends entirely on the person. Also there are people like me who are extremely frugal in some areas of spending and just the opposite in others. Who is perceived as being the big spenders is a different question altogether. I think that women are perceived as spending more, but that is in part because women are assigned more of the work of shopping and we buy things for the whole family--and also because many guys do not report all of what they spend on themselves. I've heard of men who stop somewhere for "a couple drinks" with the guys on the way home from work and then complain about how much their wives spend on groceries. Who eats the groceries? And then there are guys like my husband who never go to bars and even cut their own hair. We have always done our shopping together and we discuss each item that we buy, so there is no "he" or "she" about it. We spend our money as a couple.

As the others have said, I don't think it is a gender issue. My father was very thrifty and, thus, so am I. My sister while not as thrifty as I am, certainly is no big spender, just less money wise than me. My ex-wife probably wouldn't be called a big spender but she was wasteful on things like shoes insisting on getting the same type flats for work that were bad for her feet and overpriced and wore out quickly and she would not listen to me about it. Then a few months after our divorce she came by with some papers and was showing off her new comfortable, cheaper, better for her feet shoes she had gotten for work that were exactly the ones I had tried to get her to get for years and she wouldn't believe me when I told her that. So that is an example of my on personal experience. But in spite of that I still believe it is not a gender thing, but practicality is one of the things I look for in a woman.

I don't think this is a gender question. I think it depends on how you were raised? what your priorities are? What relationships you have had with money? I have seen it both ways personally in my relationship I am definitely the saver, my husband had never learned how to manage his money and is slowly learning but spending habits for anyone can be really hard to break:) I am looking forward to reading more responses.
