What do you think is the best operating system?

Don't like Win XP - Not user friendly to me

I've used most of them and my favorite is Win 98. As old as it is I found it so much more user friendly. I recently had Win 200 and that would be my second favorite. I just got a Win XP and have to say I'm not thrilled about it. It just doesn't seem that user friendly to me. There are so many things I don't like about it. As for Vista all I've heard is bad things about it but that's to be expected since it's so new. What do you find to be the best OS? Although you know what the best is do you use a different one? Which do you find most user friendly?

Windows XP is very safe. The biggest threat to your computer's security sits in front of the keyboard.

Yes windows XP in an excellent package that can be used. Since it is used my most of people, nowadays it becomes more frequent to everyone. The most user freindly is windows 98. It is very much easy to use and protective from quick viruses.

I heard that it was win xp that had the best security protection and win 98 had the most problems. I guess it depends on who you talk to.

Well, I worked the longest on Windows XP, and hated all the troubles it had all of thetime. Now I have Vista Ultimate and it's better than the XP but the main flow is that not everything works as yet on the Vista, so I have a 2nd PC next to my main one on which I perfomr the tasks that Vista can't do as yet. It sucks though, it really does TheFortunes

It is way too early for Vista to be any where near perfect. I've had computer professionals tell me they wouldn't use it yet. Maybe a couple of years down the road but definitely not now.

Even most of people nowadays already using windows XP, I still think Windows 98 is the best. I have same experience with you in general that windows 98 is more friendly for a user especially the one like me. Who didn't use a lot application on my computer.

Even when I used a lot of applications on my Win 98 I never had a problem with it. I think the biggest problem with it is security.

I think the WIN XP SP2 is nice, because I have spent a long time to use it, It is all very good, Vista, I think we still have to wait at least one year after using it, because there are a lot of third-party software does not support it.:)

You are so right about Vista. Anything that is newly on the market is going to have problems and then we would have to purchase things to make it work. No thanks!!

I do not know about the BEST but I can share my experience regarding this. Previously I was using Win 98 second edition which i felt was better than Win 2000. Currently, I have Win XP. I fin it to be very good and fast. Vista is a good choice but for that I will have to upgrade my machine. Thanks.

I settle for Windows XP. I think it has all the tools and flexible that a very busy person like me needs. I can do awesome gaming, graphics and writing as well as web design better in WIndows XP Professional, than I would with Windows 98. I love multi-tasking that is enhanced from Windows 98 to Windows XP.

OS X on my Mac is my favorite...I used Windoze until about 2 years ago, then I saw the light. I almost never shut my box down, I have never had to rebuild, run a virus checker, or defragment my hard drive. I have hung maybe 4 times. When it comes time to buy my next computer - I have no doubt where I will go - the question is which model will I buy...and you can bet it will be Apple!

I think Windows 2000 is probably the best designed operating system. I use Windows XP because it is the most up to date OS that isn't Vista. Vista still has alot of maturing to do. Windows 98 was just one blue screen after another. Windows 98SE fixed alot of the old problems, but it's just too old. Windows 98 does not support modern hardware like Dual Core processors, nor does it have current drivers for modern video cards. I suppose it's ok though if you have a 5GB hard drive and 64MB of RAM. For anyone considering Linux, I strongly recommend testing out MEPIS. Based on my experience it is the best Linux OS available. You can also try it out using a live CD which allows you to use Mepis without actually installing it on your computer. Kind of a no obligation trial run.

I have never used anything other than xp, ctry, so I don't know how it compares to the rest. I have heard lots of other people say that xp is difficult. I know it gives me enough headaches. When my last pc quit on me I was given an old one with Win 98 on it, but I found that I was unable to download the software that I needed. The message I kept getting was that it was out of date. That is why I ended up with my granddaughter's laptop. I can tell you this much, I preferred the desktop to the laptop. It was difficult to learn to use the thing without a mouse. I found that I could hardly play some of my favorite games for a while. I have gotten much better at games now, but the speed stillis not what I am used to. I also found that with the laptop I cannot play some games because I need to update drivers-and that is way beyond my grasp.

Yup, I kknow how you feel all the way! It sounds like the win 98 you had wasn't a second edition so it would be slow. I also don't like using laptops. I tried it once and even though you can buy a mouse for it I wasn't going into the expense because I just didn't like the whole thing. By the way....updating driver is easy...you just go to the site and find it and hit the download button. You should learn how to do it.

I use a windows 98 second edition at home and a windows xp at work. I don't mind either of them. They are both old and slow so they're pretty much the same to be completely honest. I've used Macs to and I think they're the same also. I've never found one I hated or loved more than another.

I have never used a MAC and often wondered what they are like. I had the win 98 second edition also and I still say it's the best.

if you ask me this i would say that the best OS is windows vista.....it has all the required features and stuffs...provided you have a reasonably fast computer... else windows XP is fine...

Well, I use all of the mentioned OS, but I like Windows XP the most. Win 98.2000,2003 etc are not bad but I couldn't make something done, which I could do in the XP. Andy

Hi dtry, I'm with you!!! When you find a good OS, why do you have to change? I had WIN 95, not bad, then WIN 98, somewhat better, then along comes WIN XP. I was rebellious, but got to know it and really enjoyed it. Then I bought a laptop and it came with WIN VISTA. It looks good, but looks can be deceiving. I've played around with it, and the more I do, the more I like it. I still have XP on my desktop, and I plan to keep it as long as possible. The laptop is for playing and experimenting with Vista. My preference is WIN XP at the moment. I've had it for about four years, so I've invested more time into it, and enjoy it. The more features, the more complicated they become, it seems. Happy posting..

among microsoft products, I think XP is the best. Win 98 is good, but nothing beats XP because it's much more stable (it NEVER crashes, while 98 crashes at least once a day) There are obviously other non-microsoft operating system too but among them it's difficult to say which is the best
