When you are running out of milk, cigarettes or something else....

Running out of milk! - What do you do?

It depends on what it is for me if I'm running out of something in my apartment. If it's my cigarettes I try to figure out how long they will last and usually hope I don't have to run out "right now". I usually keep a can of condensed milk in the cupboard for times that I run out of milk since I basically only use it for my coffee and tea. I usually wait until the last minute to get what I've run out of. What do you do when you are running out of something you need?

I get it right away. Or else I'll forget and it's pretty bad when you run out of toilet paper. The things that are crucial for me is toilet paper, paper towels, bread, eggs and cheese. other than that I can do without and get when I need to go get some food, period. But if it's one of the crucial items... i'll get it right away. (things like deodorant and contact solution and toothpaste I actually usually buy like months before I need it...so I never risk running out of that stuff)

I used to hate running out of toilet paper but now I buy the big 24 roll packages at the beginning of the month and it's great!

When we're running out of something, whether or not we go and get it right away depends on whether it's an immediate need item or something we can go without if it runs out before we visit the store. With something like toilet paper or dish soap (we don't have a dishwasher), we buy before it runs out because when that's needed, it's needed right then. Things like milk, bread, eggs, handsoap (as long as there's dish soap), etc. we try to buy before it runs out, but waiting until it actually runs out is no big deal.

CTRY, I live pretty much in town, so on my way home from the shop in the evenings its pretty easy for me to stop by the store and pick up what I need. Once I am home however I rarely go back out after an item. If we are out of it, it can wait untill the next day for sure!

I really really try not to and I have to be really careful...I live about 45 minutes to the closest shop, and its a waste of petrol to go that far for only a couple of things..

It depends on what I'm running out of. If I'm running out of milk I will normally run out and buy it or make my fiance go get some. We have to keep a good stock of juice and milk for my daughter since she's only 2. But other small things I'll normally just let slide till the next day. There's nothing I absolutely can't live without.

I'm not very practical - I will just send my husband to go get something that I am running out of, if it's something like milk or bread.

The moment I find that I am running out of something, I put it on the shopping list. And the next time I go to the store, I get it.But there are times when I forget. When that happens it all depends on what the item is. If it is foil or a side dish I need for a dinner, I'll go to the store that day. But if it is a cleaner or gum, I'll just tough it out until I go to the store.

If my husband took the car into work then I call him to pick the milk and bread up on his way home. If not, then I take a walk down to the 7/11 which is about 5-7 minutes away from our home and pick it up myself.

I usually try to make it last as long as I can & substitute it with something else whenever possible.

Depends on how low I am. If it's milk I run to the convience store to get some. :) With 5 kids we can't run out. Bread is something I can't run out of either. My oldest has decided she doesn't like cereal any more so that's what she has for breakfast.

It hadly never happens here because we always buy everything we need well in advance. We also keep a note with everything that is running low, and in need to get from the shop soon. Sigarettes and such we always buy enough to never stay without, and I have even placed some smokes here and there for in case we run out, but it never happens ;) Planning and than some keeping notes I think is the best solution TheFortunes

I send my husband to get it. lol. I really do. He is always out somewhere and I just call him and ask him to pick up whatever it is. There are very few things that would matter that much if we ran out of around here. We have a weird life and we tend to call and order in when we get hungry (My older son and I. We stay up all night.). I need to get real groceries in here and start eating from what I have rather than from the places who deliver!

I prefer to get the things in advance. If at all I am running out of stock, I'll opt for getting it in needs. If I was unable to get it then I finds out the alternative.

Oh my jeepers! I count down too! Say I have 5 smokes, I will say okay 6:00 7:00 8:00 etc to see the exact time I have none left if I try to only smoke one an hour. LOL. Milk I need I heads up for. When I wake in the morning and there is no milk for cereal okay I'll make them toast. But if there isn't any for my tea! Look OUT!

hi ctry, When I run low on something, I try to figure oout how and when to get more before I am totally out. I live in town, so it is easy for me to run down and get it. But if I lived some distance from a store, then I would make sure to put it on my list for the next trip and get extra to prevent running out. Unless it is something that I need right now, and I have absolutely no substitute, then I may go get it. Otherwise I will substitute. One in a while I have borrowed from my neighbor. Only because she sometimes needs something, and I have known her forever. That helps! Happy posting..
