How does it make you feel when someone assumes you are a Christian?

I guess it is all a matter of how you feel that counts. It has never really been an issue with me, but then I make no secret of the fact that I a pagan. The only time anyone has made the assumption about my personal beliefs, they quickly found that I really wasn't bothered one way or the other.

Honestly it does not bother me a bit. I am not ashamed of what I am so I do not hide it. I am Wiccan. There have been many times where someone will say "god bless you" and I just say thank you. Or someone will say "oh honey you are heaven sent" or "thank you Jesus for sending us this good woman". I once again say thank you. I am a kind, loving and very caring person and anyone who meets me knows this. So when they throw a religious comment my way I graciously thank them. Why? Because I respect their beliefs.

It really doesnt make me feel one way or another these days...all I do is correct them on their mistake and go from there..If they ask questions I'm more than happy to answer them and if they have nothing to ask or say then thats fine too...Its no big deal really..I mean its FOOLISH for ppl to automatically ASSUME anyone is any particular religion but I sort of understand why it happens

I must admit that I get annoyed when people assume I am a Christian. There are a couple of different reasons I have heard that it is assumed I am Christian. One is that I live in the United States, and some people seem to think of it as a "Christian country" and thus assume everyone here is Christian. This bothers me because we actually are supposed to have religious freedom in our country. The other reason I have noticed that people assume I am Christian is that I am nice. I do things for other people. I do charity work. Whether it is large gestures or small ones, I am always willing to do whatever I can to help someone else. And to have people assume I am Christian because I do this means that they believe only Christians care about other people, and this annoys me very much. I am not a Christian. I have never been a Christian. I will never be a Christian. This doesn't mean that I hate Christians, or am a bad person, or don't care about anyone else. It just means that isn't my belief system. I am a Celtic Reconstructionist Pagan, I am proud of my beliefs, my honor code, and my Gods. And it does very much bother me when people assume that I cannot be a kind, loving, protective, helpful, compassionate human being simply because I am not Christian.

The only time it really bothers me is during the Christmas season. Because people are so wrapped up in their own holiday that they lose site of the diversity of this world. Other then that, I usually just correct them. Or tell that I am not christian and move on. I suppose living in this christian minded country, I've just gotten used to it.

It always makes me feel slightly bemused. I don't get it that much anymore though. Either people mostly realize or just don't say anything about it.

It doesn't feel like anything. *shrug* If someone makes an assumption that I'm religious (I'm an atheist) I simply correct them and move on. The problem comes into play when someone assumes I SHOULD be religious. That irritates me and will likely send me into a tirade regarding religious tolerance and freedom from religion. But to simply assume I'm religious and not mean anything by it, doesn't bother me in the least. Takes two seconds to correct them, and as long as they leave it at that, it's all good.
