I guess it is just human nature. I try to ignore it...

Good question, and one that doesn't have a single answer. Perhaps some people didn't have good and loving (and caring) parents, or the parents spoiled the children, or just faced pain and suffering in life and developed it as a way of defense. And some people are just evil. And I am sure that there are many more possible reasons.
